Dear Families,

Last Friday staff attended a Berry Street professional development day with staff from Trinity in Richmond and St. Anthony's in Glen Huntly. It was the second day of training that staff at Galilee have attended in The Berry Street Education Model. The Berry Street Education Model is designed to improve a school’s capacity to address school engagement of young people so that every young person can achieve their personal and social potential through educational achievement.

Many of the strategies and practices that come from The Berry Street Education Model are already being implemented into the classrooms. Many of our students would be well aware of Brain Breaks, Positive Primers, Switching from Red Brain to Blue Brain and being Ready to Learn. Teachers who have started to implement the teachings of Berry Street have reported that their students are more engaged and focused during learning time. We encourage you to talk to your child about the strategies that are being used in their classroom to ensure that they are Ready to Learn.

On Tuesday morning Year 6 students and four staff members headed off to the Year 6 Camp in Canberra. From all reports, the students are having a great time and learning a lot about our government. Thank you to Miss Otte for organising the camp and to Mr Coaley, Miss Biggs and Mr Millar for attending and supervising.

On Monday a squad of 30 children represented Galilee at the Dendy Swimming Competition. These students were selected based on their performance at our Swimming Carnival last year. All the students who swam on Monday did a wonderful job against very strong competitors. Congratulations to the 11 students who have made it through to the Beachside Swimming Competition on Friday 9th March, to represent the Dendy Region. We wish them all the best of luck.

Absences and Lateness

Due to new legislation, from the beginning of Term 2, it is compulsory for all Primary Schools to notify parents if their child is absent or late and the school has not been informed.

All parents need to contact the school by phone and leave a message by 8.30am with the reason why their child will not be attending or will arrive after 8.50am.

The previously used online system on the Galilee website will no longer be used as it is unreliable.

Emailing or sending a Dojo to your child's teacher is also unreliable, as the teacher may be away. For this reason you will need to contact the school on 9699 2928 by 8.30am as the message needs to be received by administration in the office.

The message will ask you to Press 1 to leave a record of your child's absence / lateness.

Leave your Child's Name, Child's Classname (e.g. 2F) and the reason for their absence/lateness.

Classroom Helper Course

A reminder the first Classroom Helper Course will be held tomorrow beginning at 9am for those who have booked in via CareMonkey. The second and final course will take place next Friday.

Prep 2019 Siblings

Next week Interviews with Parents and Prep students for 2019 will commence for families already at Galilee. If you have not yet made a booking on PTO for your Prep 2019 interview, please do so as soon as possible.
