Wellbeing

Lindsey (Assistant Principal - Wellbeing and Disability Inclusion), Melanie Irons (Assistant Principal - Curriculum, Engagement and Wellbeing) and Tom Penberthy (Mental Health and Wellbeing Coordinator)

Welcome to Term 1 of 2023!

Week 5 already and the term is flying by with lots of exciting activities happening. The students across school are continuing to make good connections with their teachers and learn the processes for the classes that they are in.

I am currently working on trying to ensure that we have resources in place around school to meet the differing needs of our students.

We have a few families that have been reaching out for recommendations for local Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists. If you have any details of any services that you know locally that you would like to share with me or if you would like any details, please also drop me an email: Lindsey.Delooze@Education.vic.gov.au

Breakfast Club

We are up and running! We had our first delivery of food last week ready for us starting this week. I have also spent some time this week training our lovely new recruits, who will be helping out one day a week. Here is who you might see each day:

Breakfast Club will still be in the eating area near the canteen, but we will be preparing all food in the staffroom and will be serving from a trestle table, so come and find us on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays (8.30 - 8.55am). The foods available will be the same as last year including: Toast (butter, butter/marmite, butter/honey), cereal (when we have enough people on duty), milk, fruit cups, Messy Monkeys and fresh fruit.

The Foodbank provide nearly everything that we serve. They are also able to provide food packs for home if you are going through any form of difficult time. If this is the case and you need some additional support, please let me know. Anything that you share with me, will not go any further, but as a school we would love to help if we can. My email address is: Lindsey.Delooze@Education.vic.gov.au

Wellbeing dogs

Ginny had her first day back in school last week. The joy that she spread was so wonderful to see. Ginny will be back in again for one day this week and will then increase to two days a week.  This term we will be using Ginny for meet and greets at the gate, general walk through classes and some wellbeing work with individual students. On days when the weather is exceptionally hot, Ginny will stay at home to make the most of the air con!

Thank you to those parents who filled in the survey for any new students in school (prep students or anyone new to Wembley in other year groups).

The deadline was originally last Friday but I will keep the link open for a further two weeks. https://forms.gle/xhZkDHFaUJwHEzUK7

Disability Inclusion Reform

I mentioned in the last newsletter that the Disability Inclusion funding will gradually roll out from the beginning of March. I have been lucky enough to be invited to sit in on a Disability Inclusion Profile meeting at another local school. Once I have seen this in action and have completed some further online training that we have been signposted towards, we will gradually start reorganising the evidence that we gather in school to support us with any applications we wish to make. Any adjustments that are made in the classroom need to have been in place for at least 10 weeks to form a piece of evidence for the application. If you have any questions around the Disability Inclusion Reform, please get in contact and I will do my best to help.

SWPBS (School Wide Positive Behaviour Support)

Two weeks ago the Wellbeing Team ran a whole staff meeting to share the new mascots that match each of the school values. These were designed by Alana in Year 6 and each animal was selected by the current Year 6 students to match each of the school values.

Little Penguin = Empathy

Platypus = Inclusion

Echidna = Resilience

Green Tree Frog = Respect

Over the upcoming weeks, you will begin seeing these in the classrooms and in different areas of the school. Each area around school will have the values with some key rules/expectations. Keep a lookout as we gradually start implementing these into everyday Wembley Life.
