In 1961, a deputation of 140 pupils from Marian College pleaded with Sunshine Council for the repair of the road and footpath outside the school in Glengala Road.  The nuns at Marian College said, the approaches to the school were a ‘sheet of water’ after rain.

Sister Chanel Williams CSB, commented further and said, the students had to have special lockers for their muddy shoes complete with an extra pair of slippers for inside work and activities.  These years were hard times!
