Below is a round-up of sports events and results across Term 2 so far.
Overall, we'd like to acknowledge the sportsmanship, teamwork, and school spirit that define the students of Box Hill High School. Players across all sports disciplines supported one another throughout competitions, built stronger connections as a team, and represented the school community with pride and respect. We are very proud of you!

On 1 May, 20 BHHS studetns took to the field, all brimming with enthusiasm and excitement. The sun was out and Melbourne put on a show with its weather.
The girls ran hard all day in the sweltering sun and never gave in. Led by our brilliant student coaches, the girls started the day off learning how to gel as a team, what worked and what didn’t.
Our first game was highlighted but the intensity and curiosity displayed by Ava W who worked tirelessly in the ruck all day. Unfortunately, the class and speed of Koonung were too much for our girls, as we went down 48-1 in Game 1.
Game 2 started off superbly, Riya’s B’s run off the wing provided a real difference on the outside, whilst the silky skills of Amelie G set her apart from all others on the field.
You could no tell there were girls on our team who had never played AFL before, as they hunted and won the ball going forward.
Evie K’s two goals and Poppy J's first goal provided real excitement within the group as we ran away with the win 44-0 over East Doncaster.
The last game was against our toughest opponents, Blackburn. Our girls put up a huge fight in the first half, with Billie R bullying her way through midfield contests and Mabel C's ability to read the ball off half back. The highlight being a chain of kicks and handballs from our backline, through the midfield, resulting in a set shot for Evie K. It looked a lot like Brisbane ball movement the way the girls were so clean, demonstrating real growth from the first game to the last.
Unfortunately the experience of Blackburn won out as we went down 59-1. The girls demonstrated great pride and resilience all day - even when we went down to one player left on the bench, they never gave up and their energy was infectious.
Well done on a great day girls!

On 1 May, we sent a team of BHHS students to compete in the Eastern Metropolitan Secondary Tennis Intermediate Boys/Mixed Region Finals.
Charlie was our best individual player overall, he was #2 and beat all his opponents in singles, except Rowville.
Darcy was our #1 player - his competition was tough and he did well, especially considering he had just come off a two-week tournament in Fiji.
Watching Charlie and Darcy play doubles was the highlight for me.

Our Senior Badminton teams competed in Interschool Sport on 5 May, with 6 teams participating: 3 female and 3 male teams.
Across the day, our students won the majority of their matches, only narrowly missing out against one school. We are very proud of the way all students represented our school, demonstrated teamwork, supported one another, and gave their best effort throughout the competition.
MVPs:
Males: Jammie C and Jack H
Females: Ivy H and Sara W
On 5 May, we had a competitive day out at Senior Boys AFL. Playing at Elgar Park, the boys came together after many not playing together before. The boys showed great enthusiasm and with the music playing throughout warm up, we could see they were ready.
Game 1 against Box Hill Senior was never going to be an easy task. With Lucas O kicking our first goal of the day we managed to keep it close up to half time, only being down by a couple of goals.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t match their run off half back and despite some valiant efforts of our own to put pressure back on the opposition, it was not meant to be as we went down by 30 points.
Game 2 against Blackburn, it wasn’t going to be easy. Flynn D and Tim E were absolute rocks in defence and they continued to repel against the barrage of entries that were coming in.
Luke H's physicality Charlie B’s ruck work kept us from going down by too much but unfortunately we could not come away with the win.
Game 3 against SEDA again proved to be difficult as their run and skills were far greater than ours. The boys never gave up as Ryder H provided us with some smooth moving, silky skills off the half forward, while Jacob G and Will L’s ran up and down the wing all day, never wavering. We again couldn’t find a way through SEDA.
Game 4 against East Doncaster, we were a different side. The pressure put on through the midfield with Luke H, Bailey G, Matt D and Will G providing strength and physicality at the contest. This overwhelmed East Doncaster as we ran away with our first win of the day.
The boys showed heart and grit even when the momentum was against them. They never gave up. Congratulations.
Box Hill High School congratulates all players for their effort and commitment, and looks forward to continued growth and success in future sporting events.
