Duke of Edinburgh update

Recently, our Duke of Edinburgh participants enjoyed a highly successful overnight adventure at Cathedral Range State Park, camping at the picturesque Cooks Mill Campground.

Throughout the camp, students embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, resilience, and teamwork. A major highlight of the experience was students preparing their own meals using Trangia camping stoves, developing valuable outdoor cooking and campsite management skills while working collaboratively in their groups.

Students also took part in a series of hikes and climbing activities around the stunning Cathedral Ranges, including the North and South Jawbone peaks. These adventures encouraged students to step beyond their comfort zones, support one another, and appreciate the spectacular natural environment of regional Victoria.
In the evenings, students gathered around the campfire to share reflections, stories, and highlights from the day. These moments fostered stronger friendships, personal growth, and a wonderful sense of community within the group.
Congratulations to all students involved for their outstanding attitude, effort, and willingness to challenge themselves throughout the expedition. It was fantastic to see students demonstrating perseverance, teamwork, and independence, and a great time was had by all.

In preparation for the recent overnight expedition, Duke of Edinburgh students also participated in a training hike at Lysterfield Park.
The day provided students with an excellent opportunity to build their confidence and develop important outdoor and teamwork skills ahead of the Cathedral Ranges camp.
Throughout the hike, students practised navigation, group communication, pace setting, and carrying their personal equipment while exploring the scenic trails surrounding Lysterfield Lake.
The training day was a valuable stepping stone in preparing students for the challenges of the overnight adventure and helped strengthen friendships and teamwork within the group. Students approached the day with a positive attitude and demonstrated resilience, encouragement, and determination throughout the hike.
It was wonderful to see students supporting one another and embracing the opportunity to challenge themselves in an outdoor environment, with everyone enjoying a rewarding and successful day together.

On Tuesday 19 May, we were pleased to welcome Helen White, Duke of Edinburgh CEO, to the school as part of a special visit celebrating our Duke of Edinburgh program.
During her visit, Helen met with staff and students involved in the program, learning more about the wide range of activities and opportunities our students undertake through the Award.
Students had the opportunity to share their experiences, discuss the positive impact of the program, and speak about the personal growth and achievements they have gained through their participation.
The visit provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase the enthusiasm, commitment, and accomplishments of our Duke of Edinburgh students, and we thank Helen for taking the time to visit and engage with our school community.
