Year 6 faith night

Our Year 6 Faith Night was a beautiful celebration of the upcoming Sacrament of Confirmation, a milestone in the faith journey of our students. We gathered in prayer and reflection as our candidates explored what it truly means to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit.

Throughout the evening, students were invited to recognise the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and to see how these gifts are already alive within themselves and those around them. Together, we reflected on how the Spirit guides us to make good choices, to show kindness and compassion, and to use our gifts to serve others.

The theme of the night reminded us that we are all called to be 'ordinary saints', people who strive each day to be the best version of ourselves in the way we speak, act and care for others.  It was a truly special evening that highlighted the strength of our school and parish community, united by the Spirit’s presence in all we do.

Visit to the Cathedral and Mary MacKillop Centre

Our Year 6 Confirmation Candidates recently enjoyed a faith-filled excursion to St Patrick’s Cathedral and the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre in Melbourne, joined by Father Michael, St Francis Xavier and St Augustine’s students.

At St Patrick’s Cathedral, we were amazed to learn that it took three attempts to build this stunning church. We explored the side chapels, each dedicated to different saints, and discovered that Archbishop Daniel Mannix is buried in the crypt below. The beauty and history of the cathedral helped us see how faith has shaped Melbourne’s story.

We then visited the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre, where we learned about Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop and her inspiring work for others particularly educating children whose families could not afford it. It was an inspiring visit that helped us appreciate the history, faith and design behind this sacred space, and strengthened our connection to the wider Catholic community.

FIRE carrier excursion to the MCG and Birrarung Marr

Our FIRE Carrier students recently attended an excursion to the Melbourne Cricket Ground to complete the Indigenous Trail and Sustainability Tour. The day was an inspiring opportunity to deepen our understanding of Aboriginal culture, connection to Country, and the importance of caring for our environment.

At the MCG, students learned about the longstanding connection between sport and culture, discovering the stories of Indigenous athletes who have made significant contributions to Australian sport. During the Sustainability Tour, we explored how the MCG works to reduce waste, conserve water, and use renewable energy, reminding us of our shared responsibility to protect the planet.

Our journey continued with a reflective walk through Birrarung Marr, where we explored the significance of the Yarra River and local Aboriginal artworks. We concluded along Swanston Street viewing the William Barak building, using our booklets to record our thoughts and understandings. It was a meaningful day that strengthened our commitment to reconciliation, respect, and stewardship of Creation.  A big thankyou to Mrs Summers and Mrs Clutterbuck for being our teacher leaders on the day.
