Indigenous Education

NAIDOC Week

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about  First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

The theme for NAIDOC Week this year is 'Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud' whichcelebrates the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced. The fire represents Indigenous cultures' enduring strength and vitality, passed down through generations despite the challenges faced. It symbolises connection to the land, each other, and the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As we honour this flame, we kindle the sparks of pride and unity, igniting a renewed commitment to acknowledging, preserving, and sharing the cultural heritage that enriches our nation.

We will be celebrating NAIDOC Week in the first week of Term 3! Jack and Eli, our FIRE Carrier Leaders, have created an excellent plan for the activities and experiences the children will be doing over the week!
