Year 3/4 Classroom Update

What a busy start to Term 3! We have loved updating our medal tally each day throughout the Olympics, checking and discussing changes each day. We each picked three countries to follow and see who would get 20 gold, silver and bronze medals first. We will continue this class medal tally for Australia with the Paralympics coming up very shortly.

This term in Science, Design and Technologies we have been looking at materials and their properties and functions. Last week, we designed, created, tested and evaluated a dropper or catcher that would save a near extinct bird’s egg when kicked out of a nest.

In English this term we have read and unpacked our class novel Rowan of Rin by Emily Rodda. We have looked at narratives and characterisation and are now writing our very own story to follow on from the end of the book. We thoroughly enjoyed this novel study and even gave the book an around of applause when we reached the end of the story.

In Maths, we have been learning about division and three-dimensional Space and are now beginning a unit about fractions. We have had extensive practice using multiplication and understanding howwe can use it as the inverse operation to solve division problems. We have analysed 3D shapes including prisms, pyramids and cylinders and their features. We continue to play lots of warm up games to practice and consolidate our multiplication facts, subtraction and addition skills.
