Staffing Update
From the start of next week Peter Arney will be taking up a new contract for the remainder of 2024 at Hopetoun P-12 College. We wish Peter and his wife Liz all the best with their move and really hope they enjoy their time at Hopetoun. Hopefully, we will see Peter back at Merbein P-10 in the future, but that decision will be based on what’s best for Peter and his family, as they begin a new chapter of their lives.
Next week we will also welcome a new staff member to Merbein P-10. Leonie Storer will join our Administration Team from Monday and I’m sure everyone will make her feel very welcome.
Year 8 Camp
Students who put in an expression of interest and paid the $150 deposit for Surf Camp were given medical and permission forms last Thursday. These forms MUST be returned by Wednesday 6th March to the office.
Final payment for the camp MUST be paid no later than Tuesday 12th March, unlessother arrangements have been negotiated with the office.
If you require a replacement form you can get them from the school office.

Camps, Sports & Excursion Funds (CSEF)
CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities.
If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families. The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.
The annual CSEF amount per student is $150 for primary school students and $250 for secondary school students
If you applied for CSEF at Merbein P-10 College last year, you do not need to complete an application form this year unless there has been a change in your family circumstances.
You only need to complete an application form if any of the following changes have occurred:
- new student enrolments; your child has started or changed schools this year.
- changed family circumstances; such as a change of custody, change of name, concession card number, or new siblings commencing this year.
Please contact the office if you are unsure.
An application form is attached.
For more information about CSEF visit:

Conveyance Allowance Program
To be eligible for a conveyance allowance a student attending a mainstream school must attend:
- their nearest government school/campus appropriate to their year level — being the closest school determined by the shortest practicable route from the student’s residence, or
- the student’s Designated Neighbourhood School (DNS) — refer to Find my School website to identify a student’s DNS
