Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,
Such excitement! Thank you to everyone who attended this special event. It was a great session with the Magpies today!
Even though Patrick was not there the players and AFL representative spoke so positively and engaged the audience. The students were outstandingly respectful and I was so proud of them! Well done to our FIRE Carriers and School Leaders too! Bravissimi!
Thank you Gianni for making it happen! I wonder which sport's team will visit us next?
Happy Mother’s Day!
I would like to take a moment to honour and celebrate the incredible gift of mothers and mother figures in our lives. We are especially reminded of the words of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, who embodied a mother’s love through her deep compassion and service to the poorest of the poor.
Like our Blessed Mother Mary, and like Mother Teresa, may we continue to reflect Christ’s love in the way we cherish and support the mothers around us. I hope all our mothers and mother-like figures had a joyful and blessed Mother’s Day on Sunday!
Democracy Sausage and Cake stall
Thank you to members of our St Kevin’s Parents and Friends Association for putting on another school fundraiser at the Federal election last Saturday. So much work, compliance regulation and preparation goes into events like this and it is so rewarding for our school. Some baked, some cooked and some assisted with selling goodies! We raised $750.
The use of St Kevin’s Performing Arts Area by the Australian Electoral Commission has gained popularity and it is good for the community to come into our school and see our facility.
The volunteers that helped on the day and/or in preparation for the day are:
Anthony C, Laura M, Naho C, Miyuki Y, Sebastian M, Gabee L, Suzanne C, Jim T, Erin A, Marey N, Fiona C, Sophie A, Con T & Eva T.
The families that contributed towards the day (money to purchase supplies & cake stall contributions) are:
- Twining, Nitas, Santoro, Kral, Lamprou, Karner, Du, Ewen, Chan, Yang, Hamid, Parvar, Harman, Young, Mangiavillano & Lane
Thanks to everyone that contributed and supported towards the success of the day! Please think about assisting with future school activities!
Cross Country
Conditions were perfect for our first Cross Country event in a while!
Congratulations to everyone who participated or helped with our school cross country event on Tuesday 6th of May including parents, carers and staff who were positioned at distance points along the track.
We had a sensational turn out of parents, carers, family and friends who supported and cheered on all of our children. Thank you so, so much for your encouragement.
All the children who participated received a point for their sports house.
Special mention to Gianni Montalto (PE Teacher) for organisation and marshalling at the finish line.
We have 30 students qualifying for the next round at the district event on Friday 23rd of May.
PFA for Mother’s Day Stall and Mother’s Dinner 15/05 7pm
Thank you to the team led by Suzanne Connelly for organising the gifts and organising the event. The joy that these events bring to the students is precious and it shows what special people Mum, Grandmas, aunties and any mother figures are in their lives!
Look forward to socialising with the mums at dinner on Thursday 15th of May at the Templestowe Hotel at 7pm. Please let Suzanne know if you would like to attend.
Team Teach - Staff Professional Learning Friday 16th of May - Student free day
Team Teach is an accredited training framework designed to enhance staff capabilities in behaviour support and to promote a safe, inclusive, and cohesive school environment. It centres on practical, preventative strategies and offers a structured, respectful response to incidents.
Training equips staff with:
• Practical strategies for supporting positive student behaviour
• De-escalation and risk reduction techniques
• Restorative processes following incidents
• Clarity around relevant legislation and MACS policy expectations
St Kevin’s will be one of the first schools to train a whole staff in Team Teach. This aligns with our goals of consistently developing teacher pedagogy.
School Car Park in the afternoon
This week we are revisiting the importance of safety at pick up time.
- Parents in the cars are not to exit cars in the traffic lane
- If you would like to exit, please park your car along the rock wall
- Students will remain seated until parents approach staff on duty and no students to go on or beyond the yellow line
- Any parents, carers, grandparents etc waiting for students will be moved to the left of the deck.
- The ramp will no longer be a waiting spot for parents as it is crowded and way too close to cars.
Learning Support Officers – Roles and Communication
Our Learning Support Officers (LSOs) work under the guidance and direction of class teachers and school leaders. Teachers and leaders provide sessional instructions and ongoing support to LSOs to ensure consistency and alignment with student learning goals.
We kindly ask that parents and carers direct any questions, concerns, or instructions to the relevant teacher or school leaders rather than the Learning Support Officers.
LSOs have specific job descriptions and employment conditions that differ from those of teachers and leaders, and therefore the expectations of their roles are also distinct.
Parents and carers are most welcome to make appointments with teachers or leaders if they would like clarification regarding student work, progress, or any other aspect of their child’s learning.
