HOW CAN YOU BE AN ECO WARRIOR AND HELP THE WORLD?

ONE SMALL STEP AT A TIME!

Reduce- What you buy and use. Reduce plastic waste.

Reuse- Turn waste items into something else.

Recycle- Use waste items in art projects to reduce those items going into landfill.

UPCYCLING

Senior Elective Upcycling students are doing a fantastic job recycling, reusing, and repurposing waste items to create new and useful items. Students enjoy learning new skills and working through projects with Gary and Surabhi’s assistance and support. Items made by students are tested and valued by students.

Upcycling is a useful lesson to teach students how to recycle varied materials. It teaches students life skills to repair, make do and mend items instead of buying items new.

Two good books available at your public library:

ZERO WASTE KIDS by Rob Greenfield has thirty-five activities.

101 WAYS TO BE AN ECO-HERO by Kait Eaton

Next time your ready to throw an old item out just think: Can I recycle it?

Can I repurpose it and make something new and useful?

WATTLE DAY    1ST OF SEPTEMBER

The Golden wattle or Acacia pycnantha is our national floral emblem. Each year activities are organised to celebrate Wattle Day. This day coincides with the first day of spring. It means eel season in the indigenous seasonal calendar. There are many varied species of wattle. Wattle reminds us of our Australian identity and connection to our country. Golden wattle is a symbol of remembrance and reflection. Indigenous people have used the blossom for thousands of years in ceremonies and medicine. It symbolises new beginnings and growth. Its life span is seven to twelve years.
