Melbourne Girls College Leadership Conference

Earlier in the month, 5-year 12s in our student leadership team attended MGC leadership conference. Around twenty schools were in attendance and it was a fantastic event which helped foster new networks, spread and create new ideas on how student leadership should be explored, treated and the mindset you need to have. Emceed by the three MGC school captains, a number of activities were completed on the day including some icebreakers like charades, teambuilding activities like skittle dodgeball, and a presentation from a successful businesswoman on her views on what leadership and change is as a whole, and her experience with it. Throughout these activities we had time to discuss, present and put forth our ideas on how to strengthen student agency within our schools and how we as leaders can put forth and make these changes.

DIY Big Freeze

As reported in Student Community Fundraising, the SRC initiated and organised the school's participation in the 2025 Big Freeze with 12 brave students and teachers alike being dunked with a bucket of ice blocks in water.

Laura, an ambassador from  FightMND attended the event,   along with hundreds and hundreds of students from all year levels watching the event.

The turnout was terrific, and we raised a considerable sum to help fund research into finding a cure against MND.

This was such a successful initiative and a great show of community spirit at BSC.

World Environment Day

Our observance of World Environment Day was very successful, with the SRC leading a concerted effort to clean up the  school grounds.  Around six or seven student groups took the initiative to collect rubbish, and  with plenty of enthusiasm, they helped clean up the space we all share. Prizes were handed out and the rubbish was responsibly disposed of. It was great to see so many students involved—and even better to hear how much they enjoyed the experience.

A special thank you goes to Uncle Shane, who provided some great motivation for us all!

Student Forums

The SRC is committed to making sure every student’s voice is heard.

One of the key ways the SRC gathers feedback is through student forums - providing for open conversations that allow students to share their ideas, concerns, and perspectives on life at BSC.

Because the SRC aims to respond to the diverse needs of our school community, all students are strongly encouraged to take part in these forums. It’s a valuable opportunity to contribute your thoughts and help shape real change within our school environment.

The first forum was held on 25 June, with Year 7 students setting the pace!. They shared their views on a variety of topics including inclusion, diversity, wellbeing, facilities, and teaching and learning. The insights gathered are already helping to inform future SRC actions, and forums for other year levels will follow soon.

Pride Mural

We have some exciting plans in motion to commemorate Wear It Purple Day this year. Merri-Bek Council has offered to provide some outdoor paint to help get a Pride-themed mural painted in the school. We've scouted some potential spaces and have decided on the wall on the side of the A-block bathrooms, across from the Year 12 Common Room. We're offering positions on a design committee to help finalise a design and hope to have this all organised by Wear It Purple Day.
