PRAYER

Last Sunday we heard from St Luke’s Gospel the story of Jesus visiting the house of Lazarus’ two sisters, Mary and Martha.  During the visit Jesus highlights for the sisters, the importance of prioritizing time with God over worldly tasks.  While doing the practical daily tasks of life is very important, Jesus is telling us that prayer is essential and that we will accomplish even great things when we get God involved! Getting God involved through prayer is the first and the most important thing to do if we are going to accomplish anything.  With this in mind, families might like to pray together the short prayer below:

Lord Jesus,

We thank you for the gift of your word

And the example of Mary and Martha.

Help our family to find the balance

Between serving you in our daily lives

And seeking your presence in prayer.

Teach us to listen to your voice

Amidst the noise and distractions, and to choose the better part,

Which is to sit at your feet and learn from you.

Give our family the grace to overcome our fears and worries,

And to trust in your love and guidance.

Amen.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION INFORMATION

The celebration of our 2025 Sacrament of Confirmation will take place later in Term 3.  To help parents prepare their children for this important Sacrament we will be holding a Family Night on Thursday 31st July @ 7:00pm in the St John’s Hall.  At this meeting Fr Albert will chat with families about the importance of the Sacrament your child is preparing to receive.

It is expected that all Confirmation Candidates attend this meeting with a parent.  During the meeting we will be discussing church requirements such as who is eligible to be a Confirmation Sponsor, the significance of the saint’s name your child chooses to take in Confirmation and the dress code for the celebration.

PARISH RENEWAL PROGRAM

Catholic education in Australia was established through the hard work and generosity of the generations who have come before us. This generosity over the past 150 years has allowed St Andrew’s Parish to build six Catholic Primary Schools. As recipients of this generosity, the families of St John’s have a responsibility to ensure that the Parish continues to flourish.  We are asked to support the parish with our time and talents and by making sure we contribute financially throughout the year.

Families received a letter and brochure last term outlining the current Parish Renewal Program.  In keeping with your pledge upon enrolling your child at St John’s, we have asked ALL FAMILIES to re-evaluate their situation and complete the My Financial Pledge slip at the back of the brochure and return this to the School Office.  Your contribution no matter how small will ensure that we have a viable Parish in the long term.  Thank you to the many families who have recommitted to supporting the parish.
