Principal's Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope this newsletter find everyone well and thriving. Just a reminder we have RAT tests for Covid still available from the office. You may like to have a box or two handy in case anyone in your family begins to display symptoms, for your peace of mind. You can call the office and we can give to your child, or you can drop in to collect yourself if you prefer.
NAPLAN Results: These have been available for collection for families of students in years 3 and 5 for a few weeks. Those that were not collected by families by 7th August were placed in the post. Please let us know if you have not received these as soon as possible.
Parent Opinion Survey: Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. All families are invited to participate in the survey. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 7 August to Friday 8 September 2023. The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. We encourage you to participate in this important way to provide feedback about our school. If you have any questions or need help accessing the survey, please contact the office for assistance.
Student Success: One of our students, Jaelah from 5/6C, was lucky enough to win a radio competition of an entire row of tickets to the upcoming Taylor Swift Concert. CONGRATULATIONS Jaelah – that is awesome news! Enjoy the experience with the people who are lucky enough to go with you.
Canine Comprehension: Each a week, a number of our students have had the opportunity to participate in the Canine Comprehension Program, where they interact with a friendly dog called Victor, who helps them develop confidence in themselves and working with others. All children participating enjoy the interactions they have with Victor and his handler.
Prep Enrolments 2024: We have started to conduct small group tours for potential 2024 Prep enrolments. If you have a preschool age child or you know someone who does, please ask them to call the school on 9743 5818 to book into one of these tours. We start our Transition Program in November and we would like as many children as possible to attend to help their start to school life be positive.
Speaking to Other Children: I would like to remind you of the importance of NOT approaching other children within the school grounds, or even outside of school. This is becoming more frequent and is totally unacceptable behaviour from the adults, as the power imbalance created is enormous. If you have any concerns about another child who you think may have hurt or upset your child, please ensure you speak to your child’s teacher who can follow up and address the situation. It can be very frightening for a child to feel they are getting reprimanded by an adult other than their parent or a teacher. If you have any concerns or feel the situation is not being resolved with the class teacher, please make an appointment to see a member of the Principal Class team and we will follow up. We are committed to working together to resolve all issues brought to our attention.
