What's been happening in Year 3/4

We are over halfway into Term 2 and there has been a lot of amazing learning happening in Year3/4!

This term in English we have been focusing on persuasive texts and have written our own persuasive texts about sanctuaries and their importance. For the rest of the term we will be focusing on poetry. In this unit we will gain a deeper understanding of the textual concepts of imagery, symbol and connotation and characterisation. We will explore how authors use imagery and symbols in literature and identify how figurative language can influence meaning. In English we are continuing to focus on our spelling, grammar, reading fluency and reading comprehension. This term we are especially focusing on editing and up-levelling our writing to make our work even better.

In Maths we have been learning about 2D shapes and are now beginning a unit on Multiplication and Patterns. We are beginning with using pictures and concrete materials to understand what groups and patterns look like. Next, we will focus on our instant recall of our multiplication facts to help us solve word problems and discover strategies that allow us to solve larger multiplication equations. Our daily warm ups are an important part of the lesson which ensure constant revision of previously taught concepts.

In Sport we have begun practicing for the Athletics Carnival. We have been practicing discuss and shot put so far. In Health we have interviewed a family member about our family culture and have created presentations about 5 key questions we asked and are sharing our unique family culture with the class.
