Reflection

Despite the passage of almost a decade, the memory of this particular occasion remains vivid in my mind. Upon learning that I was to become principal at Sacred Heart Primary School in Boggabri, my grandmother presented me with a special gift - an oil painting depicting the Sacred Heart of Jesus to adorn my office. This painting had been gifted to my grandparents by the priest, who had officiated their wedding ceremony at the Catholic Church in Kentucky, marking them as the first couple to be married there many years ago.

The celebration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is tomorrow, evokes numerous cherished memories for me. The heart of Christ serves as a powerful symbol of Jesus' boundless love for humanity. This profound love, often depicted in artworks and sculptures as a heart adorned with thorns, serves as a poignant reminder of his immense suffering. It underscores the intrinsic connection between love and suffering in our lives.

This celebration provides a chance to commemorate individuals who endure hardships due to insufficient access to food, clothing, or shelter. It is customary for us to organise special Masses on this occasion and contribute donations of food and clothing to be distributed among those in need.

Prayer

General God,

you are always loving and merciful.

Give us loving hearts

so that we will never be separated

from the love of your Son, Jesus.

May we always remember

those who do not have food, clothing or shelter.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

First Holy Communion

Digby, Harriet, Lucy, and Phoebe deserve our heartfelt congratulations for receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time on Sunday. We extend our sincere gratitude to all the parents and grandparents who joined us in celebrating Mass. Monsignor Wilkes and I deeply appreciate your presence and support.

Mass, tomorrow,  Friday 7th June at 11.30am

The entire school community is set to observe Mass (Feast of the Sacred Heart) on Friday, 7th June starting at 11.30am. All are invited to attend. Following the conclusion of Mass, eligible students will partake in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

YEAR 6 RE TEST

This term our Year 6 students will be participating in the annual Diocesan Religion Education Test on Tuesday, 18th June 2024.

Calling for Altar Servers

It is great to see we will have four students receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time in this Sunday. Did you know that once a child can receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion they can take part in altar serving at both of our school and parish Masses?

Monsignor Wilkes is looking out for any of our students who would like to become an altar server. Altar Servers must be Catholic and have a basic understanding of the mystery of Jesus present in the Eucharist and of the importance of prayerful reverence in their role as Altar servers.

Servers will be shown how to serve commencing in the near future during lunchtime.

A questionnaire has been sent to all of the families whose children have completed the Sacrament of Holy Communion Preparation Program. If you have any questions regarding altar serving, don't hesitate to get in touch with Mr Hyatt.
