FWF WE NEED YOU!

Our volunteer-led initiative at RNPS, Flourish with Fluency (FwF), ran successfully throughout Term 2 and is now continuing in Term 3. We have a key group of dedicated volunteers who have been able to keep our students well supported in their reading and numeracy fluency skills. Over the past two terms we have had volunteers who are parents from all different year levels. We have also had a grandparent, and an older sibling jump on board too! You definitely don’t need any teaching experience to run the FwF program, just a positive attitude and willingness to help our students practise reading out loud and/or revising their number facts.

To help keep the program running at full capacity, we need more volunteers on board.

CAN YOU HELP OUT? This structured program requires thirty minutes of your time each week, or even fortnight, often working with the same two students for 15 minutes each, so you will find you can build up a great rapport with them. You will be provided with personalised student folders containing instructions and the resources needed for each individual student. We will provide you with some simple training to help you feel confident to run sessions with the students. The students currently in the program are in Grades 4 - 6 and they are all keen to learn and be supported by our volunteer crew.

We currently have sessions needing increased volunteer support on Tuesdays (8:50-9:20am & 3:00-3:30pm), Wednesdays (8:50-9:20am & 3:00-3:30pm), Thursdays (3:00-3:30pm) and Fridays (8:50-9:20am)

To provide some insight into what it is like to be involved in FwF, we asked our volunteers to share their experiences. Here is what some of our team had to say:

“Supporting Flourish with Fluency has been a great experience. It's been rewarding to support the kids in their learning and being involved helps me to feel connected and integrated with the school community. I would highly recommend getting involved with FwF in Term 3!” - Kathleen.

“I have really enjoyed volunteering with the FwF program. It has been rewarding to make a small difference giving students dedicated one-on-one time to support their learning. All of the children have been genuinely eager to learn and are an absolute pleasure!” - Marissa.

“FWF is such a rewarding program to be part of. You have the opportunity to work with students who are so eager to improve! You are able to see children improve in their ability and confidence every week, and experience success at their level. It is so enjoyable to have the opportunity to support and encourage them along the way. Everything has been made so easy and manageable by Kate, Chantelle and the team, and they are extremely generous with their support should you ever need it. A great volunteer opportunity to be a part of!” - Jess

If you have capacity to join the FwF team we would love to welcome you into the team! Please email Kate Seyer at: Kate.Seyer@education.vic.gov.au.
