Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,

What a wonderful and vibrant time it has been at Derinya, with our community coming together to celebrate creativity, strengthen international connections and enjoy rich learning experiences beyond the classroom.

Derinya Art and Craft Exhibition

Our Derinya Art and Craft Exhibition was an outstanding success, both across the weekend and at our very special Gala Evening. The exhibition showcased an extraordinary range of talent and creativity, while bringing families, staff, artists and community members together in a joyful celebration of the arts.

An event of this scale is only possible through the passion, expertise and generosity of many people. I extend my sincere thanks to the dedicated committee, volunteers, staff, sponsors, contributing artists and everyone who attended or supported the exhibition. Your time, energy and commitment created something truly memorable and reflected the wonderful community spirit for which Derinya is known.

Welcome to Our Japanese Delegation

We are delighted to welcome our Japanese delegation from Palaygo to Derinya. Their visit provides a valuable opportunity for our students to develop friendships, share cultures and broaden their understanding of the world.

Experiences such as these remind us that learning extends well beyond the classroom. Through conversation, curiosity and connection, our students develop cultural understanding and see themselves as part of a diverse global community. We hope our guests have enjoyed a warm Derinya welcome and leave with many happy memories of their time with us.

Year 6 Excursion to Queen Victoria Market

Our Year 6 students recently enjoyed an exciting excursion to the Queen Victoria Market. This iconic Melbourne location offered a rich, real-world learning environment in which students could explore culture, commerce, food and the history of our city.

The excursion encouraged students to observe, ask questions, interact respectfully with others and make meaningful connections between their classroom learning and the wider world. Thank you to the staff and volunteers who supported the day and helped make this valuable experience possible.

Every Day Matters

Regular attendance is one of the strongest foundations for student learning, wellbeing and belonging. Every day at school offers something important: a new concept explained, a friendship strengthened, a question explored or a moment of success that builds confidence.

A day away from school can mean much more than missed work. It can also mean missing the conversations, shared experiences and connections that help children feel secure and engaged in their learning. When students attend consistently and arrive on time, they are better able to establish routines, participate fully and maintain positive relationships with their teachers and peers.

We understand that children will sometimes be absent due to illness or other important circumstances. However, whenever they are well enough to attend, we encourage every student to be at school, ready to learn and ready to contribute. Each day is another opportunity to learn, grow and belong and every child’s presence makes a difference to our Derinya community.

Thank you all for a fabulous start to the term, wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead.

Warm regards,

Nadine Pye Principal
