Dear Westbreen PS Families,

Long Weekend

I hope you all had a lovely long weekend - Melbourne certainly had a lot to offer, including the Formula 1, Moomba Festival and some beautiful warm weather to enjoy the outdoors.

Interschool Sport

Last Friday, we hosted Oak Park PS for interschool sport. It reminded me how lucky our community is to have such outstanding grounds and sporting facilities, including an artificial turf softball field, bat tennis courts and cricket pitch. It was great to see our students put in their best efforts and show great sportsmanship - whether they won or lost their games.  Well done to our Year 5 and 6 students!

NAPLAN starts tomorrow

A reminder for our Year 3 and 5 families that NAPLAN begins tomorrow. You may be interested in trying some sample tests through the public demonstration site to get some insight into the students' experience of NAPLAN. Click here to try out a range of sample tests for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

School Tours

Mr Kenny and I have been very busy conducting school tours for Foundation families for 2027. Did you know that our school has an Enrolment Management Implementation Plan which only allows families who live in our school zone to attend our school? This plan allows our school to maintain our enrolments for our current facilities. If you know anyone who lives in the local area and are starting school next year, please encourage them to contact the office for more information.

Reminder: New School Council for 2026

A reminder that a Special Meeting will be held next Monday, 16 March, to present the Annual Report to the School community and to co-opt nominated community members onto council. This meeting is open to all community members. Following this, we will hold our first official School Council meeting to elect the office bearers for 2026.

Proposed Industrial Action

I have had a few questions from the community in regard to the proposed industrial action on March 24th. Where industrial action occurs, we will do our upmost to ensure that the impact on educational programs is minimised. It is essential that:

  • adequate supervision of students is provided
  • school programs are maintained wherever possible
  • the disruption to parents and students is kept to a minimum, and
  • all staff on duty are able to perform their professional duties free from intimidation.

Schools will be advised by the Department of Education as we get closer to the proposed date and that information will be shared with parents/carers as a priority.

Yours in education,

Megan Ganter
