SUNSCREEN DONATION
Last term, St Francis Xavier’s received a very thoughtful donation from the Hunter Melanoma Foundation of thirteen bottles of SPF 50+ Sunsational Sunscreen. This donation will help ensure our students are protected from harmful UV rays during outdoor play and activities as well as promote the importance of sun safety in our school community. We would like to extend a thank you to the Hunter Melanoma Foundation for their donation.

KINDERGARTEN TRANSITION PROGRAM
The Kindergarten Transition students are having a fantastic time at their transition program this term and we love to see the smiles on their faces. Last Monday, the children transformed into little farmers as they eagerly picked fresh carrots from the school garden. Today, they were excited to receive a visit from Narrabri Police and Narrabri Fire and Rescue as part of their 'People Who Help Us' session.
Next Monday is the conclusion of our program. Parents are invited to attend a Kindergarten Information Session at 12.00pm in the Library. This will be followed by the Graduation Assembly under the COLA commencing at 12.30pm (families and friends are welcome to attend).
GARDEN CLUB GREENHOUSE
Garden Club students have been busy tending to our school garden that is thriving after the recent rain. Kindergarten girls harvested some delicious fresh beetroots from the vegetable patch along with Year 2 girls who assisted with picking flowers to take home last week.
The newest feature you will find in the garden is our greenhouse. The structure was purchased locally from McKechnie Bros Home Hardware and assembled by our Groundsman, Mr Flood. During the holidays, Mrs Foster was busy preparing the greenhouse and planting tomatoes! Funds raised from the Bulb Drive Fundraiser in Term 1 have been used to purchase the greenhouse and the tomato plants. We were also lucky to receive a tomato plant donation. The benefits of growing tomatoes in a greenhouse include being able to plant year-round as it is a controlled environment, offers protection from extreme weather conditions as well as reduces exposure to pests and diseases.
The garden is already growing other produce, such as lettuce, that our school canteen uses for lunch orders. The canteen staff and volunteers are looking forward to using fresh tomatoes too.
WORLD TEACHERS' DAY
Last Friday Australia united to celebrate World Teachers’ Day!! We took the opportunity to say thank you to all our amazing teachers who inspire, guide, and shape the future every day and showed our appreciation by hosting a special morning tea in the staffroom.
YEAR 6 HIGH SCHOOL TRANSITION
Last Thursday, the Year 6 students attending St Mary’s College (SMC) in Gunnedah next year attended their first day of high school transition. Mr Adam Mooney from SMC travelled to Narrabri to transport the students from and back to Narrabri in their school bus. They participated in a variety of lessons with the assistance of SMC students. In music, Year 11 students helped them create their own beat using xylophones, ukuleles, bongo drum, box drum and a tambourine. The Science unit focused on soil to determine what PH levels, saturated chlorine levels and organic matter are best used to grow an ivy plant. Lastly, the students acted enthusiastically for drama class where they played a variety of activities. They had definitely worked up an appetite for lunch and were treated to pizza and garlic bread by SMC.
The students had a spectacular day and it was a great preview in readiness for the transition sessions the students will attend in the coming weeks. Thank you Mr Mooney for facilitating a fantastic day.
