The Grade 3/4's have been very busy over the last 2 weeks!
In Discovery this term, we have been learning about Climate, Climate Change and Extreme Weather.
On Thursday and Friday of week 4, the Grade 3/4's visited Melbourne Museum and IMAX to further these investigations. All students participated in a 'Weather, Climate and Human Impacts' lesson run by the Museum staff. We learned how the Earth has changed over time, the difference between weather and climate, as well as how the climate has changed in Victoria. After that, we put our knowledge into practise and rotated through 5 hands on activities about climate change actions.
The 5 activites included:
We also watched 'Extreme Weather' at IMAX. It was a documentary about the dynamic and complex forces affecting our planet. It explored the connections between seemingly unrelated weather events – from typhoons and tornadoes to forest fires and flash floods – learning how all of these extreme elements are linked.
We also got to look through the Forest Gallery and the 600 million years exhibits.
In Reading, we have finished off our first novel for the term, 'Yirra and her Deadly Dog, Demon' by Anita Heiss. The book has been bursting with energy giving a contemporary view of urban Indigenous life in Sydney.
In Maths, we have been looking at 3D objects and 2D shapes. We have been looking at the attributes of 3D objects such as how many faces, vertices (corners) and edges, and for 2D shapes how many sides and vertices. The students have had fun creating 3D objects from spaghetti and play dough.
We have also had 2 dance lessons to start to learn our dance for the school concert in September this year. Information about the Concert can be found on Compass in the events section.
Details about the 3/4 costumes can be found in the news feed on Compass.
This year the 3/4's have had the choice of which dance they would like to be a part of:
On Friday 30th May, the 3/4's were luckly to be invited to Pascoe Vale Girls Secondary College along with RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institure of Technology) to participate in a Science Fair. The students had the opportunity to see different experiments and participate in some activities that had been planned by the future STEM leaders at Pascoe Vale Girls.
Check back next newsletter (Term 2, Week 8) for more information and photos of this event.
Thank you to Mr Lytton for organising this great FREE event for our students!
