Congratulations to Ruby, Wil, Xanthe and Adelaide for qualifying for The Inner North Moreland District Cross Country finals in week 7. This is an outstanding achievement, and we wish them all the best as they prepare to represent our school at the next level.

A big thank you also goes to the 42 students who participated in the cross country event. Each of you showed great determination and effort as you ran 2 or 3 kilometres through the beautiful parklands and around the Coburg Athletics Track. We are proud of your positive attitude, sportsmanship, and commitment to giving your best on the day. Well done to all involved!

STEM NEWS

So far this Term, in STEM it has been all about weather, severe weather, extreme weather and how it affects our planet.

The Grade 1-2s worked on creating a calendar page of their favourite month/season and then used the green screen to create their own weather reports. This is what my storage room looked like the day before we were about to start filming.

As usual the 5-6s started off with a heavy technology based unit practising their coding using Scratch and experimented with visual block coding using our Sphero Robots. We are currently working on the effects on the planet if we stopped rotating and the 5-6s have been working over 3 sessions to complete a variety of builds and demonstrations to show this. Hopefully this will be finished this week!

The preps started off by looking at the brightness of the day and the darkness of the night. They had a choice to design and make a pair of sunglasses for the day, or a sleep mask to help them at night. Here are some of the examples that they made.

This would be followed up by looking at the 4 seasons. Here are a few examples of their Autumn leaf picture and some pictures from their  Spring Collage Mural. (The whole Mural is visible in the STEM room window in the corridor between the STEM portable and the MPR)- Please drop by and have a look.)

And finally for our 3-4s who researched and learnt about natural disasters and severe weather. They were set a massive challenge to create a diorama (that had moving elements) that would demonstrate their natural disaster. I have tried to group them as best I can (Tsunamis, Bush Fires, Blizzards, Mudslide, Tornados, Earthquake and Flood)
