Term 2 Week 10 Newsletter Grade 3
What a busy term we have had in Grade 3! Our Discovery units have been a highlight for everyone as we have learnt about the many different celebrations and commemorations in Australia and around the world. The students are especially enjoying learning about some of the more fascinating international celebrations, and many have been busy researching their chosen celebration here or abroad. It has tied in nicely with the multicultural day held a few weeks ago.
Our Maths this term has most recently covered Time and Fractions. Telling time, on an analogue clock has proved a difficult concept for many students and we recommend practising this at home, as well as times tables for 10, 5, 2 and 3.
Probably the best highlight though, has been our writing unit on poetry. We have been amazed by the figurative language the students have been including in their poems!
“When I blew the dust of imagination two tigers tricked a tumbling tarantula, a light bulb giggled as someone walked past and the alarm bell rang as loud as twenty school bells.” (Ethan)
“When I blew the dust of wilderness creepy crocodiles crushed cream cakes a fabulous flamingo frowned frighteningly, and a lovely llama laid down listening.” (Vihaan)
“When I blew the dust of wonder tremendous tiger pounced like a fierce warrior pelican dived like a crashing aeroplane and a slow sloth ran as fast as a cloud on a windless day.” (Ryder)
“When I blew the dust of imagination The paper giggled as the pen moved across the page. The clock coughed as the hand struck midday and the roof sneezed as the chimney’s smoke passed by.” (Billy)
“When I blew the dust of wilderness,
a gorilla jumped like a colossal giant,
the sun shone brightly like a golden ball,
the magpie swooped the person like a maniac,” (Taylor)
“When I blew the dust of wilderness,
the pretty lake glistened like a million silver sequins,
the pine trees danced like a beautiful ballerina,
the colourful ducks began to sing like the main actor,” (Isla)
“When I blew the dust of kindness,
the lazy lizard laid lightly on a lily flower,
the snake sat silently in the sunlight,
the purple parrots perched perfectly on the plum tree” (Abby)
