PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents and Carers,

Celebrating Three Consecutive Years of School Improvement

I am delighted to share with our school community the recently released 2026 School Performance Report, which provides further evidence of the significant progress being made at Surf Coast Secondary College. This marks our third consecutive year of sustained growth and improvement, reflecting the extraordinary work undertaken by our staff to strengthen teaching, learning and student wellbeing.

Here are some screen shots from our report:

Of particular significance is our school's achievement of a 'High' performance rating in Wellbeing, the highest performance category awarded by the Department of Education. This is an exceptional result and one that our entire school community should be enormously proud of. The report highlights particularly strong student endorsement across emotional awareness and regulation, managing bullying, school connectedness and stimulated learning, with all four measures achieving a 'High' performance rating.

These results are especially pleasing because they reflect the experiences and perceptions of our students themselves. Our young people are increasingly recognising and positively endorsing the work we are doing to create a safe, supportive and engaging learning environment.

This improvement has not happened by chance. Over the past three years, our staff have worked incredibly hard to implement a new instructional model, establish consistent classroom routines, strengthen our curriculum and introduce more targeted wellbeing and learning supports. Collectively, these changes have transformed our classroom environments, creating calm, orderly and purposeful learning spaces where teachers can teach effectively and students can thrive.

Our learning performance results are also encouraging, with the report identifying improvements in reading and numeracy proficiency, as well as our VCE English study scores. While there is always more work to do (particularly in reading growth which showed a ‘dip’ this year after two years of growth previously), the continued improvement across multiple measures reinforces that our approach is making a meaningful difference.

I am enormously proud of what our staff and students have achieved together. Importantly, these results demonstrate that academic excellence and student wellbeing are not competing priorities. In fact, they are closely connected, and when we get the conditions for learning right, both can flourish.

Thank you to our dedicated staff, our students and our families for your ongoing contribution to this success.

Take care,

Shane Elevato
