Book Week News

Book Week Dress-Up Day

Tomorrow, Friday 25th August, is our Book Week Dress-Up Day and we are looking forward to seeing what wonderful book-themed outfits everyone comes to school in.

We will have a parade as part of our whole-school assembly, which has been moved to 9.00am. Families and friends are most welcome to attend.

If students choose not to dress up in Book Week outfits, they are to wear school uniform. This is not a fundraiser and no gold coin donation is necessary.

2023 CBCA Short-listed Book Read Alouds

The whole school has been joining Alison's  Webex Room each day this week at lunch eating time to hear some of our senior school students read a selection of this year's Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) short-listed books.  These are books which have been nominated for the 2023 Australian Children's Book of the Year.

This is always a fun Book Week activity, and allows all students to experience these wonderful books during Book Week.  Many thanks to the students who read the books aloud - Ella K, Ava S, Leah H, Kate C, Russell A, Oscar M, Lily M and Levy W.This is quite a daunting experience, and they all accomplished it with confidence and ease.

For those people who may be interested, the 2023 CBCA Book of the Year Awards were held last Friday 18th August.  There are several categories of book judged each year; of those most relevant to primary school-aged readers, the following books were the winners:

Scholastic Book Fair

Thank you to the Scoresby PS community for your support of our Scholastic Book Fair this week.  We hope you all enjoy your lovely purchases.

The funds raised through book sales at the Book Fair represent a significant commission for our school, which enable us to add to our school’s library  book collection.  We were able to add nearly $1000 worth of books to our Library this year as a result of Book Fair sales - for all students to enjoy for many years to come!

This event would not be possible without assistance and I would like to thank Scoresby PS Integration Aides Jenny Clarke and Tracey Raymer for their invaluable help during the Book Fair.  Thank you also to Tina Clark and Raelene Davis in the office for their important assistance in making the Book Fair run as smoothly as possible.

The Great SPS Book Swap

On Tuesday afternoon, our school held the inaugural 'Great SPS Book Swap' - and what a success it was! Each level held the swap as a large group activity similar to a gigantic pass-the-parcel, and enormous fun was had by everyone. Thank you so much for supporting this Book Week event. I am so pleased that every student was able to receive a book in the Book Swap, and this is due to the support from families and the generosity of parents and staff who donated extra books - thank you so very much!
