News From Kindergarten!

Technology, Technology, Technology!

Kindergarten students have been having an amazing time exploring technology within the classroom.

Our technology journey began with a simple ‘write the room’ during mathematics. QR codes were hidden throughout the classroom and the Kindies were sent on a mission to find them. Once the QR codes were found they used their ipads to scan the QR Codes and solve the missing number patterns.

They have had the opportunity to use Makey Makey’s to provide an ingenious twist to the concept of circuitry by transforming everyday objects into interactive touchpads.

The Makey Makey immerses students in the process of invention, it fosters creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. We used the Makey Makey for playing music on a keyboard, bongo drums and for creating sound effects for the story book, ‘Click, Clack Moo’

Next we used Botley the robot to engage in a basic form of ‘coding’. We needed to string together commands to direct Botley in completing set tasks. We explored all of Botley’s features such as making him move in six directions, how he lights up and next we will learn how to make him play music.

At the end of this week Kindergarten will say farewell to our wonderful prac student, Miss Lonergan. We have enjoyed all of her engaging lessons and wish her all the best.

We know that she will be a very special teacher and hope to see her back at St Patrick’s one day!
