From the Year 3 Classroom

Reading- This week we continue our Poetry unit reading several types of poetry and investigating features and elements the author uses. Students are learning to identify themes and messages/lessons the author conveys.

Writing- The students are deep into writing poetry at the moment.  They have written the following forms of poetry; Haiku, Free Verse, Acrostic and Simile poems.  In their writing, they have included various elements of Poetry such as onomatopoeia, alliteration, and metaphors.  Over the next fortnight, they will continue writing poetry, including limericks, Cinquain, and Dimonte poems.  At this unit's end, students will publish their own personal poetry anthology.

RE- Our current Source of Life Unit is Jesus Models Forgiveness.  This unit focuses on the Sacrament of Reconciliation as many of our students are preparing to make this Sacrament later this term.

All students received a purple note regarding the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  Mrs McInness asks that ALL students return this note whether they are making the Sacrament or not.  Thanks in advance for your support with this.

Math's- Students have enjoyed our latest unit on ‘Money’ .

The student's completed activities with hands on money, adding values when shopping, calculating change from $5 and $10. Simple opportunities at home or at the shops using real coins and notes will help your child consolidate their learning.

We are blown away at the amount of Grade 3 students who are working hard to become a Multiplication Master! Congratulations to our latest recipients- Ned O’Brien, Matilda Courtney and Billy Manoj-Marginson.

Inquiry-

This term we are exploring our Geography unit with ‘Where in the world are we?’

The main themes we are investigating include:

-what makes Australia unique?

- what are the natural and manmade features Australia?

- where are we in relation to other countries in the world?

- what are the similarities and differences between Australia and other countries?

Our Geography unit fits nicely with a mini olympics unit we are starting this week. The students have been super excited learning and researching about participating countries, athletes and sports.

Congratulations to our Student of the Week award winners:

Week 1: Charlotte Kaine 3BC, Sienna Dominick 3S and Nash Johnson 3B.

Week 2: Olive Kelly 3B, Ned O’Brien 3S and  Matilda Courtney 3BC.

Grade 3 students were proud of our own Annabelle Kennedy from 3S who participated in Week 1 in State Cross Country. Annabelle performed well in very cold and muddy conditions!

REMINDERS:

Please remember that we ask all students to BRING THEIR READING DIARY EACH FRIDAY so we can check in on their home reading.  Many students are forgetting to do this so if parents and guardians could remind them it would be greatly appreciated.
