From the Year 5 Classroom

In Literacy, the students have been learning about Poetry. We have been exploring odes, free verse and narrative forms of poetry. Students have been practicing reading poetry aloud and that it is read differently. There has been a focus on figurative language and imagery.

In Maths, students have been looking at the connections between decimals, fractions and percentages. Many students are now able to apply a discount to shopping items and determine the new cost.

Students have enjoyed reading about the Ancient Olympics during CLOSE Reading. We have just launched a research project where students can choose from an Olympic athlete, sport, host country, ancient and modern games.

Last Thursday, a dedicated group of students attended the NAIDOC Reconciliation Bridge Walk that was run by Many Mobs. The students took part in a variety of cultural experiences which is a great step forward for reconciliation and inclusion in the education of our First Nation People. This group of students will become FIRE Carriers in a commissioning ceremony that will take place on Monday the 5th of August.

Despite the foggy and challenging weather conditions on Friday, the Year 5 students demonstrated remarkable resilience and thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Lightning Premiership. They represented the school with pride and took pleasure in engaging with students from other schools.
