Prayer of St Patrick
Christ be with me,
Christ within me.
Christ behind me,
Christ before me.
Christ beside me,
Christ to win me.
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me.
Christ in quiet,
Christ in danger.
Christ in hearts of all who love me.
Christ in friend and of stranger.
Christ be with me.
These are the words sung by our Student Choir after Communion at our Mass. They offer such a beautiful prayer. Remembering the words of St Augustine, who said that to sing is to pray twice, we felt doubly blessed by the students of the Choir who freely attended rehearsal in their own time in preparation. Singing adds attentive praise to our worship of God and creates a unique sense of community, as we offer the gift of our voice to those around us. Singing expresses the joy of our heart and unites us in a special way. For many of us, to sing with others requires no small amount of courage. This is why the House Choral Competition is emerging as a significant moment in our College calendar: praise, generosity, courage, joy, and community unite.
Our St Patrick’s Day Mass – led once again by our joy and faith-filled College Chaplain Fr Eladio Lizada – unites all the hopes, aspirations, struggles, and victories of our community in one prayer to our loving God. Our Assembly is another dimension of that same prayer. After green donuts at recess our students competed in the Choral Competition. After a BBQ lunch our students – through the organisation of our Student Council and House Leaders – competed in a series of testing competitions, where joy and unity were the criteria of winning. Special thanks to our newly appointed House Leaders for their energy and insight: Ms Rylee Booth, Mr Nathan Geoghan, Ms Carly Twaits, and Mr Lean Davies.
Many people made significant contributions to the success of the day. Thanks to Mr Mitch Leviston for his inspirational leadership of the Choral Choir. Thanks to our students who led our readings on the day. Also, our Year 12 students showed leadership with their singing, and many students assisted in the preparation and delivery of the free doughnut and BBQ lunch. Finally, a very big thank you to Mrs Helen Lee, Mr Peter Shawcroft (who works AV miracles on our big days), Mr Michael Weadon, Mr Dean Hackwill, Mr Brett Earl, Ms Anne-Maree Driscoll, and, as always, the kind and generous souls of our PE/Sports department.
May God continue to bless St Patrick’s College.
