Year 3-4 Newsletter
As we wrap up the first two weeks of the term, we are excited to share how our Year 3/4 students are settling into their new routines and class structures.
Students are getting used to the routines and expectations in Year 3/4. We have unpacked the Living Well, Learning Well Framework, which guides our expectations at school. Together,we have set our own class expectations focusing on three areas:
- What makes a GREAT Teacher: We discussed qualities like being patient, understanding, and encouraging. Students shared examples of how their teachers have supported them in their learning journeys.
- What makes a GREAT Classmate: Students identified traits such as being kind, helpful, and respectful. They shared stories of times when they helped each other, like when someone was struggling with a math problem or needed a friend to play with at recess.
- What makes a GREAT Classroom: We talked about the importance of a clean and organised space, where everyone feels safe to express their thoughts. Students suggested ideas for keeping our classroom tidy and creating a welcoming environment.
In English, we are currently reading the novel The Thing About Oliver. This story helps us understand the features and elements of a narrative, which will guide us as we write our own stories. The book also teaches us about Autism, and we are having many discussions about using respectful language when talking about people with Autism.
In Maths, we have been learning about Position and the importance of using specific directions and positional language. During our warm-ups, we practice addition and complete the Daily Top Ten, which includes a variety of mathematical questions. This activity allows us to practice our mathematical reasoning, think aloud, and share our ideas and strategies with the class.
This term in Sport, we have started an exciting unit called Movement Exploration! In this unit, we will dive into various activities that will help us learn and practice important skills. We will explore starting positions, work on static balances, practice rotations, and master landings and transitions.
In History, we are exploring our local Indigenous area. We were fortunate to have Jen visit us and answer our questions about the Dhungutti language. She taught us some local words, such as yawayi, which means hello. Jen also shared a song about heads, shoulders, knees, and toes in Wiradjuri language.
In Religion, we are learning about the 10 Commandments, what they are, and their meaning in our lives today. We are looking closely at each commandment and are discussing how they guide our actions and decisions.
