KEEP NARANGA BEAUTIFUL DAY

This week Pathways Sustainability students inspected the school grounds to check for rubbish. Students found that rubbish gets blown into the yard and collects at the fence line. Rubbish was mostly collected from the back of the BER building. Plastic and food wrappers are still a major problem littering our yard. The group investigated the Lower Junior yard from the fence line and noticed the yard was generally very tidy and only three small pieces of rubbish were found. Rubbish collected was sorted into groups to determine what could be recycled instead of going into landfill.

By emptying food into containers, we can reduce wrappers and plastic waste. Paper items can be recycled into the yellow bins and Officeworks will recycle used plastic pens, lids, and markers. Being careless with rubbish is harmful to our environment. Dropping rubbish washes up into drains and ends up in our rivers and oceans. Birds mistake rubbish for food and can die. Let us be responsible and keep our school grounds clean and tidy.

Thank you to the dedicated students that took part in the clean up this week, they did a wonderful job of keeping our school grounds tidy.

THINKING ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE

Following viewing a video about climate change, Pathways Sustainability students brainstormed the benefits of Naranga having more trees and shrubs as opposed to concrete, less trees and artificial surfaces. The activity will prepare our students for a Resource Smart photo competition called Building a Climate -Ready Future.
