Senior School

Mr Mark Robson, Head of Senior School

We have been lucky to experience some amazing weather in the beginning of Term 4.  A great start to our Year 12’s final term at St Patrick’s College.  In the first week of the holidays, students completed a set of practice exams as an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the process and also assist in determining where they have gaps in their understanding.  From here, they were then able to apply their energies to holiday homework which was primarily made up of revision activities and more practice exams.  Now back at school, they are busy working with their teachers with a determined focus getting the best of their abilities.

This is an exciting time for our Year 12’s and on Wednesday our Principal, Mr O’Connor, spoke with the boys about the expectations we have of them as they finished up with us.  We have been proud of how they have conducted themselves throughout the year, starting with how they cheered on our boys and the crews of other schools from the spit earlier in the year through to how they are approaching their final days with us.  We are confident that will continue to show us the class and character they possess as a co-hort.  They were reminded that the job is not done yet, and there is still much work to do. We look forward to continuing to see them in all their classes and helping them achieve the best of their capacity.  We encourage the boys to continue to drop into their classes after the last day as their teachers will be available to provide assistance during these times.

Their last official day is Wednesday, 23 October, when the Leave Taking ceremony will occur, which is an opportunity for the students and the staff to reflect on the wonderful year that has been 2024.  This is followed up later in the night with the Thanksgiving Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral and we look forward to welcoming the boys' parents to this event as part of the celebrations.  The exams commence the next week with VCE English on Tuesday, 29 October, and run through to Wednesday, 20 November.  The final celebration of the year, the Valedictory Dinner is scheduled for Thursday, 21 November at the Mercure Hotel and Convention Centre here in Ballarat.

There is much to celebrate, but the job is not quite done yet.  We continue to continue to support the boys as they continue to work hard, attend their classes and seek assistance from their teachers.  We look forward to seeing you over the next six weeks.
