Middle School

Mrs Karina Dunne, Head of Middle School

“You are unique. You have different talents and abilities. You don’t have to always follow in the footsteps of others. And most importantly, you should always remind yourself that you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing and have a responsibility to develop the talents you have been given”. Roy T. Bennett.

Welcome, all students and staff, to an eventful Term 4 in Middle School. We hope plenty of R&R took place to bring energy into the final stretch of 2024! We expect the weather to improve and provide us with warmth and sunshine. We hope that our students also share the glory of positivity and get the opportunity to share their unique talents and abilities with the college community.

Our Middle School motto of being the best version of yourself is witnessed through the acts of our students within the classroom, out in the yard and in the broader community. We are pleased to hear many stories of our Middle School students representing themselves in such a positive way.

The Middle School cohort has a busy term with preparations for end-of-semester examinations (Year 9 and 10), camp (Year 9) and a Head Start Program for Year 10 students going into VCE/VM Pathway in 2025.

Year 10

Congratulations to all students who completed a week of work experience during the first week of the Term 3 holidays. I hope you have achieved what was set out regarding learning about a workplace, industry or possible pathway opportunities as you transition into senior school. It is hoped that this valuable opportunity will allow you time to set goals for your future and provide you with a more straightforward path.

On Wednesday, 9 October, students had their final Tomorrow Man Module Three: Man & the Mask workshop. This workshop explored how fear of judgement and excessive ‘banter’ affect individuals and a cohort's culture. It also identified how men hide and protect themselves. It allowed for whole-group discussions with our presenters, which the students found very valuable.

Year 11 2025- Head Start Program

Students in Year 10 2024 will participate in the Head Start Program for their Units 1 & 2 VCE/VM units. This will commence after the end-of-semester exams, starting Monday, 25 November. Further details and timetables will be distributed in the lead-up to this week. Please note: Year 9 2024 students will NOT participate in Head Start Year 10 2025 this year and will continue with their current subjects until the end of the term.

Year 9

Parent information and permission letters are in the Parent Access Module for the upcoming Year 9 Camp in Halls Gap. This camp will run from Wednesday, 6 November to Friday, 8 November. Students will depart St Patrick’s College on the morning of the sixth and must attend homeroom as scheduled. Students are expected to arrive back on Friday for the end-of-day dismissal time. I wish to thank the Year 9 leadership team for working hard to develop engaging and challenging activities for students to gain valuable insights about themselves and others. Please ensure that you return permission by the due date so that final numbers for catering and organisation can be finalised promptly. We look forward to a fantastic end-of-year camp with the year 9 cohort!

End of semester examination period

Please be aware that the examination period for Middle School is from 15-22 November. Year 9 students will complete their exams over two days (MESH subjects) from 20-22 November. More details will be released to students in the coming weeks.

A busy yet productive term ahead for all in Middle School. If you need further clarification about the upcoming events, don’t hesitate to contact your son’s Homeroom Teacher or Year Level Coordinators. We are looking forward to an engaging and positive final term.
