Prep
The Preps have had a great start to Term 3. They have thoroughly enjoyed learning about marsupials and finding out interesting facts about koalas, kangaroos and wombats. They have used this information to write descriptive sentences and are learning to label animal body parts. In Phonics we have introduced digraphs with a focus on wh, ch, and th.
In Maths the Preps have been learning how to collect data and represent their information in graphs. They have enjoyed surveying their classmates and tallying the results. They have been learning what ordinal numbers are and are able to identify different positions in order.
We are looking forward to celebrating our 100 Days at School on Tuesday.
Grade 1/2
Wow! What an amazing start to the term we have had in Grade 1/2. Students have settled back into their routines and have loved catching up with their friends, as well as getting to know the new faces in our classrooms.
In Writing, we are exploring Australian animals and learning to write information reports. Students are enjoying discovering fascinating new facts. Did you know that a male platypus has a venomous spur on its hind legs?
In Maths, we have been exploring counting patterns and learning about the mass of different objects by hefting them in our hands to compare how heavy they are. As well as using pan scales to discover how heavy things are compared to unifix!
For our Term 3 Inquiry unit, we have begun exploring traditional Aboriginal stories, including Tiddalick, Bunjil, and Why the Koala Has a Stumpy Tail. These stories are helping students learn about Aboriginal culture, storytelling, and the important messages they share.
Grade 3/4
What a fantastic start to the term! The students have settled back into the classroom beautifully and have been eager to begin their new learning.
In Writing, students have reflected on their holidays by creating engaging holiday recounts, focusing on sequencing events and adding descriptive details. They have began learning how to structure Information Reports, ready for their Informative Narratives on their chosen animals.
In Mathematics, we have been exploring division and data, developing strategies to solve problems and learning how to collect, represent and interpret information.
Our new Inquiry unit has begun with an introduction to the Commonwealth Games, where students are learning about the history, purpose and participating nations of this exciting international sporting event.
We have also started training for our upcomingAthletics Carnival,with students enthusiastically practising a range of events while developing their fitness, skills and teamwork.
Grade 5/6
Our Level 5/6 students have hit the ground running this term and have already settled into some exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum.
In Sport, students have been preparing for our upcoming House Athletics Carnival, building their skills, teamwork and confidence while getting ready for a fantastic day of competition.
Our Inquiry unit has taken us back in time as we explore Australia in the 1800s, with a particular focus on the events leading up to Federation. Students have been asking thoughtful questions and making connections between Australia's past and present.
In Reading, we have begun our class novel, A Banner Bold, and students have been enjoying rich discussions while developing their comprehension skills through guided reading activities.
In Mathematics, our focus is on decimals, with students strengthening their understanding of place value and applying their learning to solve real-world problems.
In Writing, students are learning how to write engaging biographies, with a focus on Australian athletes. This unit ties in perfectly with the upcoming Commonwealth Games, as students investigate the lives, achievements and legacies of inspiring sporting Australians while developing their own biography writing skills.
A huge congratulations to our Level 5/6 District Netball Team, who represented Lilydale Primary School at the District Netball Competition held at Pinks Reserve. The girls displayed outstanding teamwork and determination throughout the day, representing our school with pride. They should all be incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they supported one another both on and off the court. Well done, girls!
