Education in Faith News

We gathered together this morning at Mass to mark the beginning of a new school term.  The theme of the Mass was “Kindness”.  Father spoke to the children about the importance of endeavoring to always be kind to everybody.  He also acknowledged that we all experience and are capable of being unkind.  It was heartwarming to see that the children, when given an opportunity to vote, felt that St Cecilias was a place where they saw mostly kindness.

Being kind benefits both giver and receiver, fostering empathy, compassion, and connection. Kindness boosts mood, reduces stress, and promotes overall well-being. It strengthens relationships, building trust and cooperation. Acts of kindness create ripple effects, inspiring others to pay it forward, cultivating a more supportive and harmonious community. In a world often filled with negativity, kindness serves as a beacon of light, reminding us of our shared humanity and the power of compassion. Our acts of kindness show that we are followers of Jesus.

Baptism

Are there any families who want to have a child baptised?

It might be a child at school, or it might be a younger child.

Through baptism, we become a follower of Jesus Christ and a member of the CatholicChurch.

Baptism is required for a child to receive First Reconciliation in Year 3, First Communion in Year 4, and Confirmation in Years 5 or 6.

If you want to have a child baptised, please contact Fr Kevin on:

First Reconciliation Family Evening

As part of the program on 9th May, from 7pm, there will be a parent & child evening in preparation for this sacrament. This is an opportunity for you and your Year 3 child to spend some time together to explore what this sacrament means.

The evening will be facilitated by experts from the Presentation Sisters, who specialise in running these sessions. Parents and children have found these evenings really special and meaningful. We ask that other siblings do not attend the evening, so that the focus is on you and your child making their Reconciliation.

It is ok for just one parent or both parents to attend. During the evening you will also hear from Annmaree Hoy, our RE leader, and Fr Kevin, our parish priest, who will both share more information and details about this upcoming sacrament. Bookings for the Reconciliation ceremonies will be made available at a later date and you will receive notification about this.

Details for the evening again are:

Date: Wednesday 3rd May

Time: 7:00 pm - 8.30 pm

Venue: School Hall

Who: Yr 3 students and one / both parents

If you have any questions regarding this upcoming evening or the sacrament, please contact Annmaree Hoy. Her email is: annmaree@scgleniris.catholic.edu.au
