Principal's Report

Hello BRPS community,

As this is the final newsletter this term, I would like to take the opportunity to say congratulations to the students, staff and wider community for once again working together to enjoy a very successful term of learning and growth. As we head towards the end of term and into the September holidays, we're hoping for a couple of weeks of sunshine and warmer weather to enjoy the break.

BRAVO - 2023 Concert "Lights Up"

What a resounding success this year's "Lights UP!" concert extravaganza has been.

The students put on a magnificent show that would not have been possible without full community support. My appreciation for the deication and voluntary effort to ensure such a high-quality show and ensuing sense of accomplishment that the students experienced is expressed on the School Concert page in this newsletter.

The video of the BRPS concert is always much loved and provides many happy memories for many years to come.  HOW TO ORDER? FOLLOW THIS LINK:  2023 Lights Up Video Order Form

2024 Enrolments

Please notify us at your earliest convenience if you know that your child will not be enroled at BRPS next year.

Our projected enrolments help to determine class structure and staffing requirements.

**Early confirmation of student numbers is essential to ensure this process is managed effectively.**

We are continuing to accept enrolments for all year levels for the 2024 school year. If you are aware of families intending to enrol that have not done so as yet, please encourage them to pick up an enrolment pack from the office or arrange a tour of the school.

End of Term - Early Dismissal

Parents are reminded that as next Friday, 15th September is the final day of term, students will be dismissed at 2.30pm. Please ensure that you have suitable arrangements in place for pick-up at this earlier time.

PLAY Leaders Training

This week, 30 Year 5 students who applied to take part, participated in the PLAY Leaders training. PLAY (Positivity, Leadership and Activated Youth) is a program designed to enhance the resilience and wellbeing of young people. Further inforamtion can be found on the Wellbeing page.

Year 4 Camp

Year 4 students and teachers head off on their annual camp to Ballarat/Beaufort next week, visiting Sovereign Hill and staying at Cave Hill Creek. We wish them well on their big adventure from Wed 13th - Fri 15th September!

This year I am looking forward to attending with the group - Emily Harvey will be Acting Principal whilst I attend.

Footy Coin Line Day

What a wonderful day we had braving the wild weather for the footy coin line. There was a lot of competition between teams for the longest coin line, with the mighty Richmond Tigers ending up with the longest line. Most importantly, thank you to all who donated coins as all monies raised and will support the Fight Cancer Foundation’s Footy Colours Day, a national fundraising event in September where thousands of Australians come together to show their support for kids with cancer.

Thanks to Mr Muller for organising the day and all of the games and activities, such as the inflatables and the kicking/handballing competitions.

Unfortunately we had to abandon our 'Footy Parade' due to the weather, however students and staff still proudly displayed their chosen colours throughout the day.

Student Achievements - Congratulations...

Dance Aerobics Competition

While most of the school were having a well deserved sleep in on Friday 1st September after the concert, our superstar gymnasts woke up early to compete at the Inter-school gymnastics competition.

I'm excited to let you know that our senior team came 1st! Back to back winners! 2 years in a row! What a wonderful achievement for them. Our junior team came 2nd - a huge improvement from last year.  All athletes focused and worked so hard perfecting their skills in the lead up to the competition and pulled out some superb routines on Friday.

Another significant moment on Friday was that some of our junior athletes received their very 1st medal.

Instructor Tanya:

I'm so proud of them all. I loved watching them compete, cheer each other on and have so much fun together. Building team spirit and support was equally as important to me. In the lead up to the competition, I encouraged the girls to make banners, pom poms and chants and sure enough, the Back Rock Junior team also won the "Cheering Award".

Carnival of the Animals Cast

Holly S (Grade 5) has secured a role in the upcoming production of "Carnival of the Animals" with CIRCA. She will be joining the professional cast as part of the child ensemble. Performances are held at the Arts Center Melbourne during the first week of the September school holidays.

Holly will perform in both the 11am and 2pm shows on Wed 20th & Fri 22nd September. Carnival of the animals is a family friendly show that whisks you away on a thrilling circus escapade. Circa’s world-famous acrobats tumble, fly, leap and spin their way through the many wondrous worlds of the animal kingdom, alongside some talented youth performers. A great show to entertain the kids these school holidays! Shows are almost sold out, so get in quick if you'd like a ticket!  https://www.artscentremelbourne.com.au/whats-on/2023/kids-and-families/carnival-of-the-animals

Judo

Misha P (Yr 3) has passed a Judo practical and knowledge test called a grading at the Caulfield Judo Club.

This is no easy task and requires a great deal of practice.  The grade is awarded by the presentation of a coloured Judo belt.

Junior Judo belts are in varying colours signifying age and expertise.  Misha has been awarded an Orange-Green belt. Congratulations Misha!

District Athletics

Duncan McKinnon Athletics Centre
