Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

What an amazing term we have had.  Thanks to parents and carers for your support of the students and staff at Bairnsdale Secondary College.  Establishing strong relationships between students, staff and families is an essential part of the ‘jigsaw’ that improves student outcomes.

This term we established our new School Council for the next 12 months.  Members of our Council are:

School councils play a vital role in Victorian Government schools.  An effective school council strengthens parent and community confidence in our College.  School councils help support the direction and vision of our College and we look forward to working together over the next 12 months to ensure our students are provided with the best educational opportunities.

Tonight, we will hold parent and teacher conferences face to face at our College, followed by Webex and telephone conferences tomorrow.  These conferences are a great opportunity for families and teachers to connect in order to support your students learning and wellbeing.

Yesterday we held our College Cross Country, and it was great to see the number of students who participated in this event.  Congratulations to everyone involved and to the students who will be heading off to District Level in May.  Please head to the Sports page of this newsletter for more information on this event and an update on the volleyball and tennis interschool competition.

Term 2 starts Tuesday 22nd April which will be a student free day.  Staff will be participating in a professional development day lead by Dr Mark Dowley with a focus on classroom engagement – belonging, behaviour and instruction.  Mark has received multiple teaching awards and consults internationally on culture, belonging and behaviour. Most importantly, he still teaches mathematics to teenagers in Melbourne.  Our staff are looking forward to this day and working with Mark around improving student outcomes.

Today I have felt really proud of our College and the journey that we have taken in Term 1. Students have come to school on time and ready to learn and giving their best effort, our staff have embraced new challenges and have focussed on the importance of building strong relationships with students. We are very excited to see what Term 2 brings.

Happy holidays to our students and families and we look forward to seeing you in Term 2 on Wednesday 23rd April.

Sincerely,
