Sustainability - Community - Action

Naranga School is participating in this year’s Schools Recycle Right activities to teach students how to recycle items to give them a new purpose instead of ending up in landfill. Students practice every day to sort their rubbish and even reduce rubbish through Nude Food lunches.

Pathways sustainability students have recycled old screen print boxes to frame succulents to make a natural artwork. They will add more succulents next week to cover the entire area and wait six weeks for the succulents to establish before hanging them up in the garden.

Lower Juniors are learning how to reuse old socks by turning them into hairy caterpillars using potting mix and seeds. They remember to put on gloves and masks when using potting mix to fill the socks and section off using elastic bands and pipe cleaners then add goggle eyes. Students will water their caterpillars and watch for signs of growth.

Eco Warriors sorted and collected 820 grams of bread tags this term and we have deposited this at a local recycling hub to help those who need wheelchairs. Well done, Naranga!

Have you noticed the new green supermarket trolleys at Woolworths?

Each trolley was once seventy-four recycled plastic milk containers. This is great recycling from the company Super Cart Australia. They have made a light weight, user friendly trolley.

If you would like to participate in Planet Ark’s Recycle Right activities, contact your local council or visit the Planet Ark website.
