In Performing Arts, we have not only been rehearsing our concert dances, but learning about Music and how people listened to music from 1900's- 1960's. All students were introduced to a "Record/Vinyl" and a Record player. We talked about the history of the record player, and they were fascinated to see how it works! They especially liked it when I played the record slowly or in fast forward!
We learned about 1920's Charlston dancing (some classes trying it!), and other dances such as ballroom dancing, Hand Jive, the Twist and Rock 'n' Roll. Students are so engaged!
When we talked about the days 'before computers and the internet', we had some eye-opening questions! My favourite was "How did people learn about things?" The answer is, through Newspapers, books, magazines, encyclopedias and the library! That same student then asked, "But who wrote the books and where did THEY get their information?"
It was so interesting to see how the new generation has no idea about the world before the internet. It's a great topic for parents, grandparents and families to chat about over dinner!
CONCERT UPDATE
On Monday 23rd June, all students sang and recorded their fabulous voices onto the tracks we will be using for the concert. This is so we don't need to hire microphones, rely on the students to remember to sing (haha) and so we don't have lead/chord tripping hazards and microphone stand instructions for the audience.
They were all amazing! Thanks to Shane Mack for a very busy day!
Tickets for our concert Vintage Vinyl are now on sale via the canteen Qkr App. ($25 each)
You will soon be able to pre-purchase the professional digital recording with 2 cameras used via Qkr as well ($35).
Students have worked so hard all term and are really looking forward to showing off their talents! I know you will enjoy every performance, not just your own child's! We can't put on big Concerts like this without parent support, so thank you.
*Due to the Concert being on 2 nights there is no limit on ticket sales (unless we sell out which is 500 per night!)
*Please make sure you know which night your child/children are performing on before you purchase tickets.
WE ARE SUPER EXCITED!
