We cannot believe that we are already halfway through the year—time truly flies when you're learning and having fun! The Grade 3/4s have worked together, shared their experiences, and pushed themselves to grow in all areas of their learning. A highlight of the term was our Nudel Kart session, where students used their teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills to build imaginative structures and inventions, which they proudly shared with their peers. To celebrate all of their hard work and achievements, we wrapped up the term with a well-earned pyjama movie day!
Wellbeing: This term, we continued exploring the different things that can trigger a range of emotions throughout our day. We focused on strategies to support ourselves when feeling down, upset, or angry, and how we can bounce back from tricky situations. Through role plays, games, and meditation, students practised using calming strategies and applying them in real-life scenarios. We also looked at different ways to solve problems with our peers and explored how to manage stress in positive and productive ways.
Writing: In Writing, we moved on from procedural texts to explore the world of recount writing. This was an exciting unit where students used a range of language techniques to write from different perspectives. A highlight was watching short point-of-view clips that transported us to incredible worlds—like waking up in the prehistoric era surrounded by dinosaurs or jumping forward to 2090 where advanced technology and aliens are part of daily life! The Grade 3/4s used these imaginative settings to craft detailed and descriptive recounts. A key focus was on building stronger sentences by adding adjectives and adverbs to turn simple sentences into engaging and vivid pieces of writing.
Maths: In Maths, we continued developing our understanding of the four operations, with a focus on solving problems using two- and three-digit numbers. A key area this term was time, particularly elapsed time. We used real-life examples—like the length of a school day, flight times, and how long homework takes—to solve multi-step worded problems. Students learned to break these down into manageable parts using number lines and other strategies. Towards the end of the term, we revised important concepts such as fractions, part-part-whole relationships, renaming numbers, and writing numbers in expanded form.
Discovery: In Discovery, we continued our exploration of the First Fleet by examining the experiences of different groups, including Indigenous Australians, convicts, free settlers, and explorers. Students stepped into history through role play, recreating an English courtroom where they took on the roles of judge, convict, and jury to decide fair consequences based on historical crimes. They also mapped the journey from England to Australia and investigated what life was like in the early colony. As part of deepening our understanding of Australia’s past, we learned about the significance of National Sorry Day and why it is an important part of acknowledging and respecting the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
What a fantastic end to the term! Our 3/4s have amazed us with their creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm for learning. We’re so proud of everything they’ve achieved and can’t wait to see what next semester brings. Wishing all our families a safe, relaxing, and joy-filled holiday—see you next term for more adventures!
