Reflection

Today the church remembers, St Josephine Bakhita, the initial saint from Sudan, was a steadfast follower of Jesus until the very end. Born in 1869, she endured the hardships of being sold into slavery as a young child and was owned by multiple individuals. However, her life took a turn when an Italian family brought her to Italy, granting her freedom and providing her with an education in the Catholic faith. Eventually, she was baptised.

Josephine then became a member of the Canossian Sisters community, dedicating fifty years of her life to serving the most impoverished individuals. Her remarkable journey serves as an inspiration for us to tirelessly strive toward liberating girls and women from the clutches of violence and slavery.

Prayer

Dear God of affection,

Your son, Jesus, serves as the illuminating force in our existence.

His radiance remains invincible against any form of obscurity.

Grant us the wisdom to tread the path of enlightenment.

Guard us diligently throughout the entirety of this year

and guide our souls toward your divine presence

so that we may serve as a beacon of hope in our world

We offer this prayer through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
