Kindergarten

Welcome to Term 2!

On most mornings, KJ work on a set of 4 chosen activities that change weekly. These activities reinforce concepts that have been taught and give the opportunity for practise and refinement of these skills. These skills may include: handwriting, letter/numeral formation, rhyming words, fine motor- cutting/threading etc, sight word recognition, maths games, making and writing words, exploring musical instruments, imaginative play, reading games and many more. They are also mostly play based and students can interact on their own or with a small group of students, developing language and communication skills. Within this time, the teacher works with a small group of students teaching reading and writing skills and strategies at their level of need. We love our group times!

After lunch, we always calm down by working on simple mindfulness activity. We are learning to focus using our senses in the present, which in turn helps us to focus on our learning in the classroom.

KP

This term in KP, our focus has been on enhancing our number skills and learning to subitise, which helps children recognise small quantities at a glance. We have also been working on our literacy skills, exploring how words are made up of sounds, which is fundamental for reading and writing. KP love reading and discussing a variety of picture books and learning that stories have meaning and a sequence of events.

In addition to our academic pursuits, we’ve been engaging in play and social activities, fostering friendships and teamwork among our little learners. These experiences are crucial for developing social skills.

Stage 1:

Stage 1 has had a busy start to the term! We have been exploring the features of two-dimensional shapes, focusing on sides and vertices. Our students are also learning effective strategies such as doubling and counting on to solve addition problems.

In literacy, we continue to develop our phonics knowledge by expanding our understanding of letter combinations that create vowel sounds. Additionally, we are learning how to use time connectives in our writing to correctly sequence our ideas and incorporate speech marks for dialogue.

Stage 2

What’s been happening in 3/4M?

Hudson Manevski (year 3)

In 3/4M we have been doing lots of learning on a lot of subjects! We have been learning about fractions in maths and how to fold halves, thirds, fifths and more. In our writing this term we have been looking at a book called ‘Deadly Science’ and it is about the solar system. We have learnt so much about not just our planet but all the other planets in our solar system too. We have started Gala Day training this term where the students in 3/4M got the opportunity to choose between Netball, Touch Footy and Soccer. We are all very excited about our first Gala Day!

Jade Larkin (year 4)

For the past few weeks, we have been having lots of fun learning in 3/4M! In maths we have been looking at fractional parts and finding the compliment. In music we have been using Amplify which is a fun online website where we learn about symbols, beats and rhythm. Science has been really interesting this term as we have looked at the lifecycle of different insects, animals and plants. On Thursday the 22nd of May I went to the Sydney Writers Festival where I had lots of fun getting the opportunity to hear a variety of authors talk about their books. Some of the illustrators showed us how to draw cartoon characters and they played some fun games with us!

Fractions

This term we’ve learned about Fractions, and at the start I wasn’t the best then I kept learning. And POW I learned them.

Writer’s Festival

On the day I was nervous as I experienced, I was so happy. We got to meet Jared Thomas, Joel M & Katrina N. But if go the city for the Writer’s Festival in Winter, bring your umbrella!

Science 🧪

Well in science we are learning about Living Things, we watched a: Tiger video & a Monkey video. So that’s why we’re going to Symbio Wildlife Park. 🐒

4LH Update 😊

Fractions- Since the start of term, we have been learning about fractions in class, and I've improved. We've learned about improper fractions, mixed numbers, numerators, denominators and the vinculum bar.

Science- In science we have learned about living things and we are going on an excursion about it to Symbio Zoo later in the term. We have watched a video about monkeys and a video about tigers.

Writers Festival- On the 22 of May 20 children from D block and E block went on a train to Sydney hall to see Joe M, Jakie H, Terri L, Jared T, Katrina N a poet 2 Novelist a cartoonist and a historian. The trains were 45 mins to and from Macarthur Square. It was also very loud and wet.

K-6 Koalas

It’s hard to believe that Term 2 is half-way through! We have been so busy learning about AMAZING animals and we are also learning to group them in Science.

K6K students have enjoyed learning new things: we have been cooking and made delicious brownies! We have also been learning some coding and have enjoyed practicing these skills. It was super-fun!

So many new activities and experiences are coming up in the next few weeks, we can’t wait to see what else is going to happen in the rest of the term!

Stage 3

This term has been filled with exciting events and learning opportunities for our Stage 3 students! We kicked off with meaningful ANZAC Day celebrations, where students reflected on the significance of this important day in our nation’s history.

Our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser had a fantastic launch, promoting both fitness and heart health while raising funds for a great cause. We are proud of our students' enthusiasm and commitment to this initiative!

Additionally, our students had the opportunity to participate in the Sydney Writer's Festival, where they engaged with authors and explored the world of literature. This experience has inspired many budding writers in our class!

Finally, our students showcased their debating skills in the inter-school debating competition, demonstrating critical thinking and teamwork. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and achievements.
