Term 3 in Grade 3

We extend a warm welcome back as we commence Term 3. We trust that you have enjoyed a rejuvenating break and had some fun over the holidays! Grade 3 students are in for a captivating term filled with a range of enriching learning experiences. Additionally, this term encompasses some key events, so we kindly request you to continue checking Compass for additional dates and information.

Literacy

This term, we are focusing on a new text Fish in A Tree. This book follows a misunderstood student who has learning challenges in the classroom and discovers that they have many strengths and strategies to succeed. Additionally, our structured literacy approach will encompass a range of fiction and non-fiction texts, allowing students to develop essential reading skills while engaging with a variety of genres. This comprehensive approach to reading seeks to empower students to analyse, comprehend, and critically evaluate texts, equipping them with invaluable lifelong skills. Get ready to embark on a transformative reading adventure!

Within our literacy block, we will be using Fish in A Tree as a catalyst to explore spelling, handwriting and writing. Through engaging weekly spelling routines, students will strengthen their understanding of spelling and develop valuable strategies to spell words with greater accuracy. Our goal is to strengthen students' abilities to become more confident and proficient spellers. We are also breaking down sentence structures through the Writing Revolution, improving students' capacity to create interesting and varied texts.

Numeracy

In Term 3, students will embark on a diverse numeracy journey, covering key areas such as place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, angles, location, shape and probability. Each day, they will also engage in valuable reviews of previously learned concepts, ensuring a solid foundation of knowledge. Through this comprehensive approach, students will develop a strong understanding of numeracy principles while reinforcing their existing skills. The daily reviews will serve as an opportunity for students to solidify their learning and build connections between different mathematical concepts.

Homework

Students are encouraged to read for a minimum of 20 minutes, 5 times a week and record this in their online reading log through Google Classroom. Students are encouraged to continue using Sunset Maths on Essential Assessments as a means of extending their engagement with numeracy homework.
