Term 4 in Year 3

Dear Grade 3 parents and carers, 

 

Welcome back for Term 4. Here we have outlined some of what will be covered during our final term together. Underneath the outline is a poem, written by Michael.

 

READING

In Reading, we are completing a Novel Study of the text A Tangle of Knots. This text enables students to explore different points of view and helps them to solve a literary puzzle. In non-fiction we are looking at mixed multimedia on biodiversity. We will focus on the key skills of:

  • Questioning - literal and inferential
  • Visualisations
  • Predictions
  • Examining literature
  • Reading out loud to build fluency

WRITING

In Writing, we are guided by The Writing Revolution, which include:

  • Breakdown of types of sentences
  • Examining and creating information reports and narrative texts
  • Daily spelling activities
  • Vocabulary development

MATHEMATICS

In Mathematics, we continue with:

  • Daily Review
  • Place Value - number lines, renaming and problem solving
  • Multiplication facts of 3 and 4
  • Fractions - unit fractions, fractions of collections and fractions in everyday life
  • Measurement - in terms of length, area, mass and capacity
  • Bar models for fact families

WELLBEING

In our Respectful Relationships lessons, students will be looking at:

  • Gender and Identity 
  • Positive Gender Relationships

HOMEWORK

We will continue to encourage student voice in their weekly choice of reading text. Students are expected to:

  • Read for 20 minutes, 5 times per week
  • Record this in your reading log 
  • Essential Assessment: Complete 15 minutes of maths tasks in My Numeracy or Sunset Maths per week (or more if you want to practise)

TERM 4

In the realm of learning, let us speak, of the break so well-deserved, now complete. 

As Term 4 unfolds, we extend our hand to students and carers, in this learning land.

Excitement fills the air, our hearts aflutter, as we delve into knowledge, explore and utter, 

Novel Studies, our guiding light so bright.  A world of words, an endless flight.

It's not just about reading, you see, but comprehension, empathy, and critical glee.

Teachers by your side, like guides so wise, we'll explore novels and reach for the skies.

Carers, join in this literary quest, with discussions at home, we'll reach our personal best. 

Term 4, a time of discovery, let's uncover, The magic of reading, like no other.

 

The Writing Revolution, a change profound, structured writing, skills that astound.

Clear, concise, and organised, we will scribe our thoughts and ideas, we now deep-dive.

 

In Mathematics, too, we explore anew. Through units to measure, right on cue. 

Daily Review keeps our skills on track. Confidence grows, there's no looking back!

Bar models aid in the problem-solving space. Complex word problems we'll embrace.

Fractions, place value, we'll understand - Mathematical blocks, at our command.

Multiplication, division, for three we explore, fundamental facts, we'll know them for sure. 

With strategies combined, we'll soar high. In Term 4, we'll reach for the endless sky.

 

At home we say, read and record, twenty minutes, five times, be assured. 

Numeracy through Essential Assessments we'll do, "My Numeracy" tasks, to name a few.

Sunset Maths on Essential Assessments, so grand, Extend your engagement and take a stand. 

 

A journey of learning, together we'll embark.  Our last term together, finishing with an exclamation mark!
