Writing
We have started our stories! Students are undertaking the 'writing' phase straight onto the computer, having used a range of planning proformas to gather their ideas. All have finished typing the introduction and are well into their action paragraphs. Check out their progress so far!
Maths
The past two weeks, Mrs Pardon (our visitor from Swinburne University) has been teaching the students multiplication and division strategies. The children have explored arrays, using these to write multiplication and division facts and practiced multiplying and dividing whole numbers by powers of ten (10, 100, 1000, etc). Some students also began learning the long and short multiplication written methods. The children have developed greater confidence in these areas, although a 'gentle' reminder to parents to please continue supporting your children to develop fluency with multiplication and division facts (times tables) at home, as this is hindering some children's progress.
Excursion
On May 7, students from Years 3-6 will go to the city for an excursion to the Melbourne Museum and IMAX. Parents will be asked to drive their children to Lilydale Station to catch the train. Permission forms will be posted on nForma early in Term 2.
Japanese
Please see the Japanese page for photos of the 4/5 with their Japanese Zen Garden. They are spectacular!
