Chiara Umina - Prep Teacher - Prep CU

I’m Melbourne born and bred and absolutely love our city—the culture, the sport (go BLUES!!!) and, especially, the coffee. While you’ll often hear me complaining about Melbourne’s unpredictable weather, I think I must secretly love it, as I’ve never lived anywhere else!

I studied a Bachelor of Psychology, originally with the goal of pursuing a career in child psychology. After graduating and spending some time travelling around Europe, I returned to university to complete my studies in education and become a primary school teacher. I’ve since been teaching at APS for—let’s just say—a very long time! I truly love the Alphington community and the strong, family-like feel it has always had. Teaching is something I’m passionate about, and I love the new adventures each day brings.

Most of my spare time is spent chauffeuring my two boys, Samuel (10) and Jonathan (8), to basketball and soccer training and games, swimming lessons, and social events. While it certainly keeps us busy, my husband Chris and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I also play netball on Wednesday nights and love a friendly game of pickleball, going for walks, swimming, and catching up with family and friends.
