JAPANESE

Our Year 5/6 students are developing their Japanese skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. They are now learning to read and write sentences in Japanese. Japanese can be a challenging language to learn, especially when it comes to reading and writing, so I am very impressed with their progress and effort.

Our Year 3/4 students have been practicing the days of the week. They are now learning how to talk about and forecast the weather for each day of the week.

Our Year 1/2 students have also been making great progress. They are enjoying learning how to write words in hiragana, one of the Japanese writing systems. It is wonderful to see their enthusiasm and confidence growing.

Foundation students have been learning the names of different fruits and have enjoyed the Japanese folktale Momotaro (Peach Boy). They can also follow simple instructions in Japanese, such as “look”, “listen”, “sit down” and “stand up”.

Japan Day is coming up next week, and we are looking forward to celebrating Japanese culture with our students.

Students are encouraged to wear Japan-inspired clothing. This could be a Japanese anime T-shirt, a kimono or other traditional Japanese clothing. Students could also make their own Japan-inspired T-shirt by writing their name in Japanese.

We will have five different Japanese-themed activities for students to enjoy. Onigiri (Japanese rice balls) will also be available to order for lunch.

We hope Japan Day will be a fun and enjoyable experience for all our students!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

🏃‍♀️🏆 PE & Sport Update

It has been another fantastic few weeks of PE and Sport at Ripponlea!

A huge congratulations to all of our students who represented Ripponlea at District Athletics. Our students competed brilliantly across the day, showing outstanding effort, sportsmanship and school pride. We are incredibly excited to announce that six Ripponlea students have qualified to advance to the next stage of competition!

To top off an already fantastic day, Ripponlea was awarded the Small Schools Trophy! 🏆 This is an amazing achievement and a wonderful reflection of the effort, enthusiasm and teamwork shown by our District Athletics team. Well done to everyone involved!

Our Year 5/6 students are now turning their attention towards Interschool Sport, developing their skills and game understanding in European Handball, Sofcrosse, Rounders and Touch Rugby.

Meanwhile, our Year 3/4 students have been putting their teamwork, movement and decision-making skills into practice through a range of invasion games, including Soccer, Gold Rush and Handball.

Our Foundation–Year 2 students have also been having plenty of fun in PE, celebrating Book Week with games such as Wake Up Bear and Caterpillar Tag.

🤸 Gymnastics is Coming to Ripponlea!

We are also very excited to welcome coaches from Melbourne Tumbling Academy to Ripponlea Primary School on Monday 7 September and Monday 14 September.

Thanks to funding secured through the Sporting Schools Grant, all Foundation and Year 1/2 students will participate in a gymnastics session on both program days, completely free of charge to families.

The sessions will take place in Barbunnin, with students having the opportunity to develop their balance, coordination, strength, flexibility and fundamental movement skills under the guidance of specialist gymnastics coaches.

We can't wait for another exciting couple of weeks of sport and movement at Ripponlea!
