From The REC

Heavenly Father,
As this school year draws to a close, we come to you with grateful hearts,
thanking you for the gift of this time.
Thank you for the learning, the growth, the laughter, and the challenges that have shaped us.
We are thankful for our teachers, staff, and families who have guided and supported us.
Bless our students as they enter the holidays, giving them rest, recreation, and time with family. Protect us all from harm and keep us safe.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
Advent Wreath
The Advent wreath is a special symbol used during the season of Advent as we prepare for the birth of Jesus at Christmas. It is made from a circle of evergreen branches, reminding us of God’s never-ending love and the promise of eternal life.
The key elements and symbolism of the Advent wreath:
Shape: The wreath itself is created from a circle, with no beginning or end it represents God's eternity and the unending love and faithfulness of God.
Evergreens: The evergreen branches symbolise eternal life, as they remain green throughout the year, reminding us of the hope of eternal life through Christ.
Candles: The wreath holds four candles, with one being lit each Sunday of Advent, leading up to Christmas. There are 3 purple and 1 pink candle.
Christ Candle: A fifth white candle is placed in the centre of the wreath, symbolising Christ. This candle is lit on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day to celebrate the arrival of Jesus, the Light of the World.
Together, the symbols of the Advent wreath help us focus on prayer, reflection and anticipation as we move through the weeks of Advent and prepare spiritually for the joy of Christmas.
The Migrant Jubilee Cross
As part of the celebrations for the 2025 Jubilee Year, the Migrant Jubilee Cross is journeying around Australia from October 2025 to October 2026. This special Cross was commissioned by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference. It was crafted from Australian timber, including a piece of an old pew from Saints Mary and Joseph's Cathedral in Armidale. At the heart of the Cross is a reliquary containing relics of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, and of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, or first Australian saint. These sacred relics remind us that the Holy Family, too were once migrants and that Christ is present in every pilgrim and refugee who journeys in faith.
The Migrant Jubilee Cross will visit our parish between the 11-14th December.
