Principal's News 

Rest.

We know that school holidays are for that, but often not that for our families. Once again, we appreciate the pressures on families as many of our staff experience this to. As a reminder to myself, I focus on connection during this period with my children, a time to forget other issues and spend the most valuable gift of all, time, with my children. I hope you can get to do something that creates a memory with you child.

Growth and Attendance

On Monday we celebrated the outstanding growth of many students. What stood out what the correlation between growth of students and attendance. Whilst not a perfect science, as simply being present doesn’t guarantee growth, it gives a huge head start. Our curriculum is designed on repetition to embed key ideas, therefore, a lack of attendance takes away from the chance to move concepts to long term memory, which means they have really been learned.

Congratulations to Habib, Akaash, Bella, Kaiden and Joseph who were present everyday of term. As a parent, I know how challenging this is as a parent, and if students get sick, it is the right thing to stay home. However, this is an outstanding effort, by both student and parents. We celebrated this with a special lunch for these students. 

Thank You Student Leaders

Our student leaders for semester one finish with their idea of Pyjama Day and hot chocolates. 

I reflected with Kobee, Giselle, Shadrack and Reegan about the benefits and challenges of leadership. They suggested is that being a leader was hard as you have to take responsibility more, and can often be blamed for things others are doing. That is very true. Leaders have to take the hits for their team, whilst providing clarity and optimism. It is the challenge I experience too. I commend these students for such insight and starting to use this responsibility to speak up to their peers to make change. The real lesson, that even without the badge, they still can lead and create growth. I look forward to seeing them continue to thrive. 

Building Progress

The building continues to progress, with a view to opening term 4. The roof is going on and windows have almost been completed. This will allow the internal fit out to ramp up.

First Day next Term

Our staff will be on-site on Monday 13th July for Berry Street Learning. However, students will start back in the Tuesday at normal time. We look forward to seeing everyone. If you need to contact us over the holidays, contact principal@hfdoveton.catholic.edu.au

Students From China

During Term Three, we will have 8 students from China joining our school, across different classes. We have had a few other new enrolments recently. It means that our Year ⅔ class is now full, and ⅘ class is close to full. Our Grade 6 class will be close to full throughout next term, as we ensure that our students still get that high teacher to student ratio, ensuring all students get the support they deserve. We also know that the students from China will provide so much learning for our students, particularly with their dedication to studies.

Prayer for the Holidays

"Loving and merciful God, we thank You for the gift of this holidays and the opportunity to rest, reflect, and gather with loved ones. We ask for Your blessing upon our family and friends. Protect those who are traveling, grant peace to our minds, and fill our hearts with joy. May Your love guide our days and unite us in gratitude. Amen."
