Principal Message

Be Kind, Be safe, Be respectful, Be responsible, Be resilient, Be ready
Dear Families,
As we reach the final week of Term 2, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our students, families, and staff for a wonderful semester of learning, growth, and community spirit. Throughout the past two terms, our students have embraced new challenges, celebrated achievements, supported one another, and demonstrated the values that make Our Lady Star of the Sea such a special place. We are grateful for the ongoing partnership and support of our families, whose involvement contributes so much to the success and wellbeing of our school community.
On a personal note, as I reflect on my first six months as Principal of Our Lady Star of the Sea, I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our families, students, and staff for the warm welcome I have received. It has been both a joy and a privilege to become part of this remarkable community, and I feel deeply honoured to lead such a wonderful school.
Over these past months, I have come to appreciate the many ways in which Our Lady Star of the Sea is a place of genuine beauty. While we are blessed with a beautiful setting, it is the beauty of our people and our shared mission that stands out most. Our Catholic identity calls each of us to recognise and uphold the inherent dignity of every person, and this is reflected daily in the care, compassion, and respect shown throughout our community. I have been inspired by the commitment of our staff to the holistic development of every child, the support and partnership of our families, and the enthusiasm and kindness of our students. Together, these qualities create a community where every child is known, valued, and encouraged to flourish.
I would also like to inform our community of some upcoming staffing updates. Chris Fall has recently announced his resignation from his role as Education Support Officer at OLSS. We thank Chris for his valued contribution to our school over many years and wish him every success and fulfilment as he explores new endeavours. In addition, Wendy Fall will be taking leave for Term 3 as she steps into the important role of carer for her parents. We keep Wendy and her family in our thoughts during this time. These changes will require some adjustments to our staffing across Semester Two, and I will provide a further update to families once arrangements have been finalised.
This Friday, we will conclude the term with our much-anticipated Be Kinder Day. This special day is a celebration of kindness and an opportunity for students to reflect on what kindness means, how we can show it to others, and the important role it plays in creating a hope-filled world. Students will participate in a range of engaging activities centred around this important theme.
Adding to the fun, Friday will also be a Pyjama Dress-Up Day, and our Foundation students will enjoy a special Teddy Bears' Picnic with their senior school buddies. It promises to be a joyful day filled with connection, friendship, and kindness.
All students will be provided witha hot dog lunch on the day. Families are asked to continue packing regular lunchboxes, as the hot dog lunch is intended as an additional treat rather than a replacement meal.
Students are invited to bring a gold coin donation to participate in the day. All proceeds will support our Vinnies Winter Appeal, helping those in our wider community who may be experiencing hardship during the colder months. We thank families in advance for their generosity and support of this worthy cause.
As we prepare for the upcoming school holidays, I encourage everyone to take time to rest, recharge, and enjoy precious moments with family and friends. I wish all members of our community a safe, happy, and relaxing break and look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for an exciting Term 3.
Thank you once again for a wonderful semester. May the school holidays be filled with rest, happiness, and many special moments together.
Warm regards,
Pamela McKillop
